I'm 95% sure that Vitali Klitschko will beat Kevin Johnson, but i'm not gonna go and gamble my life on it. I was probably only about 75% sure about Manny winning. Making a prediction isn't discounting every other possibility. It's educated guesswork.
Exactly. Boxing is a sport where random shit can and does happen. Manny could have been winning the fight easily, then been stopped from a legitimate cut from a punch. So it's absolutely absurd to say... "Oh you didn't bet your house on it did yous????" Because even if you're pretty sure of who's going to win, in boxing it's never a sure thing, cuts, bad decisions etc happen semi regularly in boxing. You'd have to be a fool to bet all your cash on any fight, but especially a fight between 2 top level fighters.
After reading some of the replies here am actually feeling worst about picking Cotto. I'm taking notes for the next time, this board has some very knowledgeable people. I'm putting money down on Kessler v Ward, I need all the help I can get after the Pac v. Cotto debacle. Thanks for the replies!
Nobody knew unless they could see the future. Many made educated guesses based on stats and possible outcomes. You're bitching about something that didn't happen.
Personnally I picked Cotto because I prefer Cotto, not because I thought he was better, just for bragging rights in case he won and also because I don't give a shit about what others here think about my prediction record. A few months ago, I stated that I thought Cotto would lose, and his fight against Clottey only comforted this opinion. I know hindsight is 20/20, but if you came here before putting your 4K bet on Cotto, I would have tried to make you change your mind, or at least propose you to cover your ass with some Pac by KO bet. But quite honestly, there's no recipe for predicting fights, and if there's one the guy that has it would be very stupid to share it. We all have nice streaks and bad streaks. Personnally, the less my favourite fighters fight, the better I am.:: I don't root for the best around, just fighters a notch below...
the method is simple. Be objective, be good at looking at styles-clashing, using a good rogic about what factors are important. This weekend, the important question is how good is Andre Ward, and will he be able to deal with someone whose on par/a better boxer as/than he is.
running joke especially in a math department filled with asian faculties haha. A little racist?...yes, funnier than it is racist...yes.
It's not racist. It's stereotyping. Still, it was funny and I'm not Asian so I have no problem with it. ::
Nobody could predict how Manny dealt with Cotto. The Hatton and Dela fights were no indication what so ever. I picked Manny but at the time I would not have been surprised if Migel was simply to big for the pacman to handle.
