I don't think that was the only time he was knocked out as an amateur, i think Courtney Fry did it. Both those fights were at light-heavyweight.

At heavyweight, Solis stopped him in the World's final, referee jumping in after repeated knockdowns more due to exhaustion. Incidentally, Haye started that fight really well, landing a huge right hand that had Solis reeling and requiring a standing 8 count.

We all know Haye is vulnerable when taking shots. What i would say in his defence, is that he now takes the sport more seriously than ever. Early in his pro career, he'd cut corners in training, and carry a complacent attitude. He whips himself into top condition now, and has grown up a lot in terms of his mental approach.

That Solis bout as an amateur is a nice fight.

i'd put haye and amir kahn on the same level, no shit.

the hyping of these two muppets over here in the uk is disgusting. the press have the general public believing haye is some sort of killer (i think one of the papers compared im to ali after his fight with valuev) and the TRUE heavyweight champ. i mean what the fuck.

kahn is a disgusting "champion", who is not only an idiot, but has the brains of a budgie. a right dumb fuck. Sky are billing his next fight a "king kahn" lol.

both of these guys have no chin and its just a matter of time.

I wish Haye could back up his talk. Boxing could use an outspoken heavyweight champion.

His best win by far. Mormeck would probably beat Valuev too. He's fight like a man as well.

At this point, Haye has done more in his career than Khan has. I know you like Khan, but he hasn't really done much yet.

David Haye is 29, Khan is only 22. I'd expect him to have done more.

It happened to Haye as a pro as well. Or will we call that a fluke? Oh wait no he was gassed, it had nothing to do with his shit chin .

Let's just call it what it is, Haye has a below average chin.

The british media's 'build em up, knock em down' ethos has existed for a long time. Sure the hype is irritating, but don't hate on the fighter for it.

Haye has been a breath of fresh air for british boxing. After seeing our most talented boxers have 30-40 fights before going up against world class opposition, Haye's self-challenging approach has been refreshing. He hasn't got a good chin, and he's not the next Ali. But he's very good, generally exciting, and is a risk taker.

Im sure Haye has a shit chin, but using an Ammy fight as a reference point for that is stupid.

No. For one, headgear doesn't stop your head from tilting, which is what causes knockouts. The only point you could make is that amateurs were soft gloves.

However, fighters tend to develop through years. David Tua was knocked out as an amateur too, while Mark Breland never was. Different sports, different fighters

Mike Sims also dropped him in Am's. Not surpised. Haye has the punchers curse. Most big punchers can't take it as well as they deal. Tyson, Lennox, Joe Louis, George Foreman. etc.:notallthere:

    I agree.

He has a tough one in Ruiz coming up, and you can bet that he will build it up with his gift of gab, although I think he has more respect for Ruiz than he did Valuev.

Tyson had a GREAT Chin...It Took ROUNDS of Punishment B 4 his Chin Wilted...Foreman has Exhibited a Pretty STOUT Chin in the 2nd Phase of his Career....But REED agrees w/the Point U're Making, Overall...Julian Jackson had an UNRELIABLE Chin...Ditto for Earnie Shavers....

Corrales fits the "Puncher's curse" as well. I agree that Tyson did have a great chin, it was his mental toughness that was not up to par. Which didn't even surface until late in his career.

    ??

i think all of the above sans joe louis had pretty sturdy chins. tyson and foreman especially.

but take it to lower weight classes and guys like chico corrales, julian jackson, thomas hearns, sandy saddler and i definitely agree.

Haye has no chin. Of course he doesn't. Hell, I've been banging the David haye drum for ages and have seen each and everyone of his fights and would conclusively state, beyond any shadow of a doubt, that his chin is SHIT.

I can't understand why people in the UK are giving Haye shit, though. I mean, of course he isn't the real HW champion until he licks at least one Klit but the press coverage he has garnered is STAGGERING- the fucker is front page news STILL and he has put boxing back to a place here that it hasn't been in since the days of Eubank, Benn and Watson trying to kill one another.

Even if you DON'T like Haye, you cannot surely like the fact that, for the last two weeks, this odd little sport that I and a tiny minority of my friends follow is the ONLY thing anyone wants to talk to me about. In the pub yesterday no fewer than a dozen people wanted to know whether Haye could beat X, Y and Z or whether or not Manny can beat Mayweather.

It's tremendous, it really is. At a time when boxing is supposed to be dying, it's on the Six O'Clock news...

    David Haye :bears:
