Unlike a lot of people, I still put a good deal of stock in the Hopkins win. Hopkins may be old, but that bastard is still a very intelligent fighter and at the top end of the game. No-one who is past it does what he did to Pavlik, who has never recovered from that beating.

Obviously the RJJ fight meant nothing bar £££

But yeah, Froch has already amassed some creditable wins (Pascal, Taylor, Dirrell). You have to like the guy's attitude- he'll fight anyone, anywhere. If he beats Kessler, he certainly puts the cat among the pidgeons. It's a BIG if, though, because Froch doesn't have the speed and angles that Ward used. He'll go looking for Kessler and make it a firefight.

Nah, it's very appropriate that guy's like Tszyu and Calzaghe have their standing lowered in hindsights because their best wins turn out to be far less good thant what we thought. That's what you get when you don't test yourself against the best. If Calzaghe wouldn't have wasted years of his career facing trash, nobody would give a shit about what Kessler did afterward. But now, Calzaghe achievement is very much linked to his former ''big'' wins future achievements.

Yep. Kessler's loss hurts Calzaghe's legacy. That said, it's just a loss and Kessler has a long way to go. As you say, that's what you get when you don't test yourself against the best. Or at least more of the best.

Its a fair point but like Calzaghe, Jones' achievements are also very much linked to the legacy created by his "big wins", except that its worked out a lot better for him than it is likely to work out for Calzaghe.

It's alright, Hopkins career defining victory, Tito Trinidad, has been exposed via shut-outs a couple of times himself.

Which means the more Hopkins is pumped up as this 'masterful, legendary great' the more it enhances Jermaine Taylor's legacy as identified by the rules of this messageboard.
