I do agree with this. I was just making the point that Johnson is not historically bad contender either and there is nobody who would clearly deserve the first opportunity

I said it many time, the current HBO brass pimps boxing. They don`t give us the best matchups, they try to manipulate us by creating paper stars then cashed them out for short term gain.

The best example for this is Arreola. McCline was beaten handilly by Ruiz, and spent the whole fight clinching to avoid punishement ( to his defense, he had a broken jaw ), yet he was passed before Ruiz ( who was clamoring to fight Arreola ) for a big money fight on HBO vs Arreola. And it`s not like the Ruiz borefest was an exception for Jameel, everyone one of his recent fights has been awfull. Worst of all, he had settled in a 9to5 job before being offered the Arreola fight in wich he clearly , shockingly to everyone involved, only came to collect his paycheck.

Yet this ''fight'', the best win of Chrir's carreer, gave Arreola a title shot vs Vitaly wich he unsurprisingly lost in an uncomptetitive fight. Sure, HBO made huge ratings for this, as Arreola was a very popular fighter in LA, but what now. How will Arreola, who was never the most dedicated fighter out there, react to being a multimillionaire ??? How many young Arreola fans will stick with boxing now that their man was beaten in monotonous fashion in a fight where it was clear, he clearly didn`t belong

Had HBO done their jobs, and gave Arreola tough fights before annointing him as a star, i`m positive that in the long term, it would have served boxing way better. First of all, it would have kept Arreola hungry ( and not in the manner he`s used to be ), not a young man with too much $$$ and notoriety who can afford to not take his craft seriously. Secondly, it would have given us so much better fights, not mismatches or fights where the oppoenent take a dive at the first opportunity. And best of all, it would have given Chris ( you can replace the name by Johnson if you want to ) a chance to win in his title fight match.

Sure, there`s a strong chance that Chris would have lost before his big title fight, but so what. A loss, where the loser give a good account of himself and use it to improve later on, is not necesseraly a bad thing marketing wise. Did anyone looked at David Tua any less folowing his memorable loss vs Ibeabuchie ???? And if Arreola wasn`t cut to make it in the big leagues, then so be it. Maybe it would hurt HBO in the short term, money wise, but I think ( and hope ) boxing would be far more healthier in the long term than it will be following Arreola manufactured star status

yeah, that McCline fight was a sham. The funniest thing was Merchant's interview at the end when he asked Arreola if he (Arreola) felt he was ready for the big guns yet. Arreola replies with a question, asking Merchant if he thought Arreola was ready, whereupon Merchant replies that he thought he was ready prior to the McCline fight.....and you ask yourself, based on what information, the Walker fight? the Witherspoon fight?

In their desperation for an attack-minded US fighter, they didn't bother to check his credentials, and now they are left with nothing, damaged goods

    agREED...

REED Actually LIKES what he's Seen from Kevin Johnson but this Fight is Toooooooooo EARLY in his Developement...Instead of Throwing UNproven American Heavy's @ the Klits, HBO Needs to CLEARLY Establish who THE BEST American Heavy is 1st...A Single Elimination, American Heavyweight Super 6 Tourney would B a Good Idea & Would Produce a LEGITIMATE Challenger for a Shot @ the Klits...

Johnson has a GREAT Jab & Very GOOD HandSpeed, but he's Tooooo FLAT-FOOTED from what REED has Seen & DOESN'T Throw a Great Deal of Punches...He'll Make Vitali Look AWKWARD @ Times, but REED Still CAN'T See Johnson Going the Distance...& it's a SHAME Because There's a Risk that Johnson Can B RUINED by Stepping Up Toooooooo Far Tooooooo SOON...

This Could Very Well B a PROLONGED, Confidence KILLING Defeat...

All Johnson has to do is make it to the ring and Vitali looks awkward. He needs no help with this. He does an excellent job of looking awkward on his own.

:crafty: How do you punch your brother and best friend in the head? It's a bit different than playing tennis with him... Reed please,.. if there's a tournament for American heavyweights, then it delays the possibility of having one of those American contenders beat them because they would have to fight them all, one at a time, anyway, you Kessler-hating racist.
