Wtf,.. are you serious?.... how the fuck could Roy even be hit by that useless bogan robot?.. .. Jesus christ... :shit: 'Dis and dat, it enhances my legacy' - Mundine
OK they just replayed the entire fight again (). Jones looked great as usual, fast of hand and foot, landing jabs. But Green landed that nice right to the temple (decent shot, good timing) and Jones was practically out. From there he got up and Green jumped on him. Ref stoppage actually was OK, Roy was wobbly and had nothing left. Why Jones continues to carry his left low, after a number of KO's and reduction of reflexes etc, is beyond me.
i thought green was gonna win but not via 1st round KO. oh well, i didnt care for jones-hops II anyhow. actually, i'd look forward to hopkins vs. green if that gets made. at least hopkins won't get KOed and would probably be tabbed as the favorite. this was a dumb move by jones to consider green as a tune up. i mean, i'm sure he got paid very well for this fight, but it completely derailed the possible hopkins fight.

Looked like a pretty decent stoppage to me. Jones doesn't throw a single, solitary punch from getting up and through to the stoppage... :dunno: A sad way for RJJ to go out and no real surprise for those of us who have known he was shot for a very long time. Please God let this be the last time we see Jones in a boxing ring... MTF
The Kessler fight was damaging, agreed, but anyone who put any stock in the Jones win was always clutching at straws IMHO. Jones has been shot for a long, long time. MTF
Well, thats the desperate way to 'get' at Calzaghe, since nobody could actually beat him themselves. On the same subject line, this makes Mundine an all-time great.
man, i thought green held a significant size advantage, but that's not even the case. it was for a cruiserweight belt, but both fighters weighed in at 179.5. i think if hopkins' still the same guy who beat up pavlik, then he should be able to outbox green.
Then suddenly Calzaghe's legacy would go back up again, and Mundine's would go back down again. Das da way boxing works.
i was kidding. calzaghe beating up lacy, out-hustling kessler, and out-working hopkins were all impressive wins. i didn't think the jones win was all that impressive nor credible to his legacy, but he still beat his ass round after round. i've seen green a fight few times and at the very least, thought highly of his power. i'm only in a bit of a shock because i figured roy would last more than a freaking round.
The Calzaghe fight was only a YEAR ago. He could have slapped Roy to the canvas but he didn't and was dropped himself. What a bum.
Like Hops career defining fight against Tito,.. ,.. what a monster Trinidad went on to be,.. awww, das right,.. 'Hops ruined him' ... or Tarver,.. the best victory of Hopkins career,.. .. Dawson's done it twice,.. ..awww das right,.. 'Hops ruined him' ... all in all,.. this kind've thinking makes Jermaine Taylor an all-time great,.. and on and on it could go.
I was a bit concerned about Foster refereeing this one, he has a habit of stopping fights too early. But he got this spot on. As MWS says, Jones threw nothing after the KD, in that time Green must've thrown at least 40 shots. After for many years saying how he'd get out of the game at the right time to protect himself, watching Roy's demise over the last 5 years or so has been really sad.....hopefully The Green Machine has put it to an end once and for all.
Calzaghe could easily have finished Roy by TKO, but it was clear to anyone who watched that Calzaghe pretty much stopped trying to hurt RJJ after that cut opened up (in the 8th I think). I thought he showed considerable restraint and said so immediately after the fight, in fact. In any event, Green hits a lot harder than Green. He also a fair bit bigger. Your comparison is pretty weak, in fact, and probably has more to do with the fact that your hero has just been KTFO. Again... MTF ::
Substitute Michalczewski for Green and thats exactly how it would have gone down in the late nineties :crafty:
comparisons are ridiculous. Green deserves props...he did exactly what he needed to do. Tarver and Johnson got to RJ before Calzaghe did. The man hasn't been able to take a good shot for years. So simply beating Roy Jones wasn't that impressive an achievement. What WAS impressive about what Calzaghe did, was the way he outboxed and out-sped Jones at times. Even against a faded Jones, i was surprised by that....the way he could stand in front of Jones with his hands down, and use head movement to avoid what was coming at him. You can't compare them. Green is as strong as an ox. Calzaghe couldn't fight that way, or if he did, it wouldn't be as effective. Likewise, Green couldn't fight Roy with his hands down.
and Otis was right about an underdog again i need to start taking my wallet out when this guy makes a pick to do with anyone he's sparred or fought
Put 3OG back into the top ten at LHW. He lasted longer than Roy Jones, who was universally recognized as top ten for beating Jeff Lacy. :crafty:
It doesn't matter about the desperate comparisons,... nobody beat him, so this is the only way to 'get some' stemming from a bitter and broken heart. You could do this with virtually every other fighter. When Johnson beat Tarver who both beat Roy,.. it enhanced Sven Ottke's legacy, for example.
Definitely. The punch wasnt big at all and didnt even hit him in the temple. It was more ear/back of the head.
I love how excited the Aussie commentators were. When you beat a legend, you become a legend. Guys I told yah. (sounded like he wanted to cry) ::
