The slightly past prime Jones didn't survive a round, would he have fared better in his prime?

    No way.

Prime RJJ's chin was a finer grain of china back then, and Green's gonna tap his head lightly at some point. I mean you only have to tap it, it doesn't have to be really clean or hard or anything! Just a little tappety-tap.

Green's shit but he can always land a glancer.

Green is past it too and he simply exploited a hole in Roy's defense that was always there. Prime Green was faster and meaner. He might have knocked Roy out even earlier had they faced each other in their respective prime.

    Interesting point.

It's clear that Roy wouldn't last the distance, prime for prime.

RJJ was at his best at SMW! So yes a SMW; at LHW Green still would have been too strong.:slap:

Thanks friend, there was a lot of thinking and analysis behind that post. Glad to see someone recognizes that.

an old post-retirement Green took Roy out in under a round...i'd hate to think what a prime Green would have done...or a prime DM

    styles make fights

the calculated pressure style would always give Jones problems..it's happened so many times now

A conventional, legal, upright guard and lack of clinches is Roy's problem. He's perfectly acceptable by the rules, but who needs rules when we can have Bernard Hopkins instead.

Jones knew judges would do this to him if he fought outlands

Almost, but you still did anyway. I was tired of the old tape cassette, I prefer to use Mr. e.T. from now on. You'll get used to it.:kidcool:

Roy looked like he was still prime or very close to it. He was fast and slick, it's just that in Green (Like Johnson, Tarver and Calzaghe) he finally faced a boxer with the right strategy and skills. The secret is out on how to beat Roy, I wish my boy Julio Gonzalez grants Roy a rematch so he can fight him with the right strategy and his improved skills and beat Roy, like I always knew he would do it with the right plan of attack. This just goes to show why Roy ducked real competition for 15 years.

In all honestly I don't think Jones was as invincible in his prime as he is reputed for being, and I also don't think he has physically declined to the degree that everyone thinks he has. Boxing and most physical sports for that matter are a whole lot more in the athletes head then in his body in many cases. When Jones got knocked out by Tarver I think it hurt him psychologically more so then physically.

He believed as did everyone he was invinicible for so long and found out so late in his carrier that he wasn't and he never got over that. Roy Jones youst to come to the ring fully confident that he could not be defeated but now he comes to the ring knowing that he can lose and can't get that out of his head. Jones is not the same fighter physically he was in his twenties but he has still looked quick and sharp like he always did he just gets hit a lot more now days because he hesitates a lot more. Its pretty obvious, there are lapses in his confidence a lot more then there is in his speed.
