TWO STRAIGHT weeks of bullshit decisions... what next?

I dont understand this sentiment. I made my girlfriend watch this fight, and by the 6th round, she was saying Martinez holding/hitting was infuriating to watch. How is it that 80+% of this board seems to overlook how disgustingly Martinez fought, and furthermore thinks Martinez won::.

But what can you expect from people who thought Marquez beat Pacquiao in the first fight:laughing:

My wife just went to bed when the fights came on, and told me to bring her a glass of water when they're over. I do the same thing when she tries to tell me how interesting F-1 is.

It is possible that diehard boxing fans have seen such nauseating holding in the John Ruiz's of the world and his ilk that perhaps Martinez didn't look so bad.

But I think it would be more fair to say that Martinez employed holding minimally enough that the fight was still fantastic, and he still threw (and landed) a great number of punches. Also, I think this was part of Martinez' plan to mitigate the big reach/size disadvantage. It was used tactically, coupled with some excellent boxing and a lot of savage punches, one of which dropped Williams like a stiffened corpse.

The people who are complaining about this fight and the "holding" are simply not able to ascertain the difference between a skilled boxer employing a fightplan and a skill-less grappling bum, and that's a shame. Martinez is the real deal.

 

I like how Jaws uses some blind female (anyone who lays with that piple faced one has to be) who's a boxing novice, as a device to back up his own belief. Talk about shooting your own argument in the foot.

Winky is not a boring fighter. I know you all repeat it but it just isn't true. Is he Gatti, no. I enjoyed nearly every Winky fight. To me they were always above average.

Byrd, I never said he is exciting. It is subjective why I liked him. I thought it was awesome that a small, under powered, under sized guy would stand in front of giants and make them miss. He was what everyone alleges Pernell Whitaker to have been but wasn't. Byrd really didn't run, he stood in front and made people miss unlike Pea who ran and held and people marveled at the "skill" he employed when the correct word was "negativity". Byrd had some boring fights for sure. He had some great ones too. The fights against cruisers and small heavies were awful. I like Byrd versus big power punching slow punchers.

Well, I am often accused of the same thing, mstly by some third world savage whose wife risks literal deathby stoning rather than have sex with him. Sorry for the digression, I am simply saying that negativity needs to be punished and it is the number 1 reason that mainstream fans turn away from boxing. Winky Wright is one of my favorite fighters so let it not be said that I only like "Rocky" type fighters. There are fantastic legal defensive fighters like Winky and James Toney who legally employ defenses to thwart aggression and counter. Then there are negative fighters like Cory Stinks, Hopkins, Wlad (fro the last 4 years) Jhn Ruiz and Floyd Mayweather.

I think if a judge punishes a fighter for uncombative behavior that is a good thing and the rules should be specifically changed t reward combat and punish negativity. Direll never got touched in his fight with Froch and I have no prblem with the judges "robbing" him.

Imo, Sergio Martinez deserved to lose every close round for his deliberate negativity. He did do sme effective countering and he also grabbed and ducked his head into the chest of Williams to slow the action. Everytime I see something like that I deduct a scred point for the negative fighter and think it should be in the rules to do so. Aggression is good.
