Traditionally the series has been composed of 4 episodes. Since the fight is tentatively scheduled in 12 weeks and with only ONE press conference to announce the fight, shouldn't HBO run as many episodes as possible, double the normal amount to promote the biggest fight in a generation? Just think of the RATINGS the two most compelling personalities in the sport could generate... Good or bad idea?
You can only focus on so many areas in each episode though...and Floyd and Manny are such veterans of 24/7. There are only so many times that i can hear about the lazy-eyed guy who sleeps on the floor at Wild Card, or the old fella who 'counts' Floyd's punches with that clicker. Mind you, i can't get enough of Roger Mayweather, so you may have a point. I think people need to get over the idea of the perceived lack of time to promote the bout. This fight really is an exception to the rule, and exception to a lot of rules. Anyone with a vague interest in boxing has already decided that they MUST see this fight.
Agreed. A pile of 24/7 episodes aren't needed for a fight like this, especially when we've seen them both on it multiple times already.
Why does it seem like everyone is so concerned with marketing this fight and how many PPV buys is generates? What the fuck does that matter to us? I just want to see the damn fight as soon as possible.
Maybe because the press conferences and 24/7 type shows are often more entertaining than Mayweather's fights. ::
24/7's have gotten more and more disinteresting to me. Personally I don't think I can sit through them boring lumps of crap anymore. It's like watching reality tv and I fucking hate reality tv.
No denying this fight sells itself. The average joe who normally don't follow boxing just needs a push and a knudge and reminded of the variables here to make the purchase. But 24-7 shows are FIRST rate. Cinenamatography, writing, narration and scenes that wouldn't normally be seen of the fighters camps, make a MUST see also. When Ali fought Foreman in Zaire, there were many documentaries made about it. Ali bumbaye! The films captured the whole ATMOSPHERE leading to the fight and it is now also part of history. Sure we have footage of them before and we think we know them a lot better but wouldn't it be great to have over 2 hours of film documenting the months leading to the most MEANINGFUL fight in a generation?
By the looks of it, SIGNING the contracts is a mere FORMALITY. They will probably BREAK the $120 million revenue for a fight and make more then $40 million each. Pacquaio doesn't care whether Mayweather's name is listed first on the billboards, or who is announced or who enters last.. He'll choose gloves and he'll probably enter last and be announced last as the champion.
Indeed it IS. If it's happening in MARCH, how PUMPED are you Slice? Compared to say MAY, which was one of the OTHER rumoured dates?
I have never been interested by it, I have not watched one 24/7. I have watched a few bits and pieces of episodes but I can't remember ever watching even one entire episode. It's for the mainstream who knows nothing about the fighters. IMO
Sure, but come on, it's still fun. Or at least the early ones were. You still get to see a bit about the fighters, and it's generally quite well put together etc. The recent ones have been crap, but the early ones were pretty watchable.
I really don't give half a shit what boxers do with themselves out of the ring. I have enough trouble caring about what my loved ones do in day to day life to worry about some fucken obscure human from half a world away does. That said, I agree with mikE. I like the music too.
That's pretty disheartening to hear as i constantly think about what you're doing every day. I guess i'll have to force myself to stop caring although i'm not sure i can.
It's not so much that I care, but it's still interesting to know a bit about your favourite fighters etc.
yeah i agree, i just don't see the point of overcompensating with the amount episodes because the fight won't be proceeded by such a promotional marathon. I enjoy 24/7....it's becoming more and more familiar each time, but i can't helped but get pumped when they do the training montages at the end of each episode.
Stop spreading bullshit rumours. It's a damn fact that this fight is happening in March and I won't let you try and taint bigdawg's moment like this.
I disagree. While I don't watch all of them, I learn things I didn't know about the fighters when I do. For example, I didn't know that JMM drank piss.
For the most part I enjoy 24/7, but I don't think extra episodes are necessary. Actually, I don't think a huge, huge marketing push like what preceded Mayweather-De La Hoya is really that necessary for this bout either. This fight is so huge and will sell itself for the most part. Casual fans who know dick about boxing always ask me when Mayweather and Pacquiao will fight and whom I think will win.
Yeah and let's face it, as soon as the fight is signed and announced, we have two options, ignore any news until right up to the week of the fight or soak as much information as possible 2 months out. For this one, I'm going with the SOAKING option...previews, articles, interviews, columns and 24-7 episodes!!!
Just saw Mayweather on HBO's Joe Buck live. Here is an undefeated fighter who REFUSES to believe he'll be beaten. In his mind he knows what's going to happen on March 13, he'll be victorious. It's up to Manny to change his mind and vice versa. If Floyd starts out as he did with Judah, he'll be in a world of hurt. Pacquaio won't fade like Judah did after 4 rounds. If Pacquaio waits for Mayweather and let's him be first to measure his speed and strength, he'll be in a world of trouble. Mayweather will outbox him easily. What will Merchant write and say right before the bell? Can't wait!!!!!
