Adamek has shown he can move up through the divisions, which is something Dawson has yet to do. Sure, Dawson beat him, and has since resided at 175 exclusively, where he turned in stellar performances against Clinton Woods/Sven Ottke leftover Glen Johnson.

I think moving through the divisions is helpful when considering pfp, though not exclusive.

See Vitali- never fought below Hvyweight. But he has cleared out the division to an extent, Glen is still struggling with guys who were not even household names at 168.

Adamek, by contrast, has pretty much done the business at 200 and now has a win at heavyweight to boot.

JMM making these lists? What in the flying fuck? He was barely better than Juan Diaz and he got schooled by a rusty Floyd. He's clearly on the downside and whatever he may have been, it's obvious he ain't that now.

 

Reed, Dawson did squat at 168, we both know that, not unless his full name is Joe Calzaghe Chad Dawson III. He certainly did less at 168 than Adamek did at 200. Wiping out Cunningham and Manny Steward protege Banks {yes I know Manny will train dogs if paid enough} is fairly impressive.

When your starting weight is 175, a win over just about any name heavyweight is worth a bit. I would hazard a bet that Adamek win over Golota was worth as much as Jones over Ruiz. Sure, Jones got his start at 154 but Ruiz got his at 190.I am talking size and weight terms, btw. Maybe if you look at it in those terms you will see my point. I think Adamek took a major chance with Golota, considering the size difference- probably took a bigger chance than Haye did with Valuev.

I dont see how Dawson can be regarded as having done a whole pile at 175. I mean, has he fought Hopkins? Calzaghe? 2 years ago they fought for the Ring title. Dawson fought neither. Not saying he ran, or didnt want the fights, but they didnt happen. He is essentially fighting leftovers. Tarver, Johnson, are his biggest wins- as they were for Ottke and Hopkins, a whole 10 years ago. Maybe Dawson is the dominant guy at 175. Dominant over who though?

 

Marquez moved up through the weights nicely. I agree, he failed his biggest test vs Floyd, but that was at 175.

You are putting far too much stock in the Adamek-Dawson fight. Dawson was down and Adamek said himself he was drained.

Who went on to greater things after Roy beat Toney? Roy won, James was drained. Toney did the business at 190 vs undefeated Jirov and his performances vs Peter, Holy, Ruiz, Rahman and co put him out in front of Jones by the time Jones was losing to Joe Cal.

In the long run, I would say Toney achieved enough to make that argument. Not win it, just make it. In much the same way as I am saying that Adamek has done, and is doing enough to get out in front of Dawson.

Dawson could stay undefeated at 175 for the rest of his natural life for all I care- but beating, and struggling at that, with Glen Johnson and getting more 12 round decisions than Paul Spadafora does not a pfp king make. Remember Roy racked off countless so-so wins vs so-so opponents at 175, never fought DM, but James made that leap to 190 and beat an undefeated Val Barker recipent. Adamek is iciing bigger guys. Dawson is doing some sort of a happy-slap job versus guys who are past their best, and he isnt even laying them out. Kind of like Roy did for years. In the meantime, just as Roy did, Dawson has, for whatever reason, allowed Joe and Hopkins to pass him by.

I am not winding you up......take the Jones-Toney analogy, and see if it doesnt make sense. James lost to Joe, but he made an awful lot of ground up.

And Adamek didnt need a few years of soul-food searching like James did to get on up there and get back into the frame.

 

Not much. Floyd had a massive weight advantage and Marquez still went the distance.
