Inspired by other threads and especially Mex' last one: Here's a first try including the time before the prime, which could be expanded but is hard to do since novices can be like Gamboa or George Foreman the III when starting their careers). I'll give a few examples, too. The list is just a first try and i invite all users to make suggestions for more or better categories. 1. novice (relies on talent alone, needs more physical assets, training and experience or is still too young) - George Foreman the III 2. advanced (has a few fights doesn't look completely clueless anymore) - Saul Alvarez and other promising prospects... 3. about to enter his prime (well what it says one step before...) - Andre Ward, Amir Khan, Evander Holyfield 4. Prime (physical or tecnical, ideally both combined) - Artur Abraham, Lucian Bute, Pacman 5. slightly past it (mostly because of age when tecnique and mental abilities are still there - or in the other case after a devastating loss that hurt the psyche more than anything else) - Vitali Klitschko, Bernard Hopkins, Edison Miranda 6. semi shot (not quite) - Jean Marc Mormeck, Isreal Vazquez, Jhonny Gonzalez) 7. shot - Antonio Tarver, Yori Boy Campas, Roy Jones 8. shot to shit - Oleg Maskaev, Francois Botha, Calvin Davis 9. shot beyond all recognition - Ray Mercer, Mike Tyson, Tommy Hears and other grandpas with stupid comeback attempts
Good post. Sugar Ray Robinson always said that fighters wake up having "slid" overnight. It depends on the individual. It can be overnight and physical, it can be psychological and sudden {the KO loss} it can be physical and over a period of time {injuries, wear and tear, accrued damage}.
Number 3 STILL has REED Scratching his Head...Evander Holyfield Listed w/Andre Ward & Amir Khan in the "About to Enter his Prime" Phase????.... REED:dunno:
There is no need for 3 multiple levels of "shot." When a fighter is truly "shot", it is over. There is no coming back from that. I think the issue is too many folks use the word as it is convenient for them regarding a particular fighter.
Ok so we have two guys here who are not sure whether Evander Holyfield is about to enter his prime now or not... :atu:
