Clean or Flush?

Yep. If you think about the term outside boxing, it's used for mechanics, washers etc. "This washer is sitting completely flush".

It just means a perfect connection, like it couldn't be any cleaner or more precise.

When I say being in the middle, I mean that the whole fist lands more or less flat on the target area and impacts. No force is lost due to only hitting part of the target. I don't mean anatomically in the middle of a fighter's face; I mean the punch connection is evenly distributed on both sides of the surface of the impact area.

Getting hit clean to me just means clearly being struck. You can get nailed clean with a jab, but flush is more of a powerpunch to me. Pernell didn't have a flush jab, but Sonny Liston sure did.

Flush, by definition, refers to the congruous coming together of two surfaces.

Clean, on the other hand, may refer to contact alone.

Example.

If I connect a live wire to a terminal, and current flows, we have a clean contact. However, the contact is not flush, as only one part of the exposed wire need touch the terminal for the contact to be clean.

Flush, by contrast, is what you get when you place the palm of one hand down on the palm of the other, with the fingers and joints all perfectly congruous and therefore flush. An exhaust manifold sits flush with the exhaust valves. Your car door closes flush with the car body. Unless its a Buick.

Flush is always clean. Clean is not always flush.

Its common sense, when you get right down to it, the "white part" of the amateur glove explains it, if they only scored "flush" blows, you wouldn't need any demarcation on the glove.
