AVATAR Contraryto what others have said, I found that this was a very entertaining film. The first two hours is a fascinating journey of discovery, a tour through the exotic fauna & flora of the alien world of Pandora. A technological triumph that raises the bar for believable CGI characters. That said, I too have to admit that its plot was very predictable from the start and the characters weren't as developed as the CGI effects. Yes, it was Disney's POCAHONTAS in outerspace. The similarities were obvious (I was expecting that the 'old tree' will show the face of an old lady and start talking too). And why turn a $300 million movie into a in-your-face "save-the-trees and the rainforests" 'message film'? It's much hyped 3D effects weren't impressive at all. So save your money and watch the regular 2 D version. I was equally impressed as I was disconnected from its lack of emotional resonance. As much as I wanted to love this film, I couldn't. It surely is a good film and I recommend it, but it wasn't the most entertaining science fiction event of the year. That honor still belongs to STAR TREK. 8/10

Apart from the storyline everything about Avatar is fresh and new and for that reason is just about pips Star Trek. The remake of Star Trek was pretty good better than expected but what really annoyed me was they to went back to the old reliable. Time Travel and Spock. :nono:

Sure Cameron can be douche but he deserves a lot of credit for creating Pandora.

It was terrible and nobody seems to notice that there really wasn't much of a plot.

Check out Rise of the Foot Soldier. Pretty good British Crime Flix. Also Smokin Aces if you haven't seen it. Although it's not a British Crime movie I think it's by the dude who did Snatch and plays in the same style.

    Already listed it.

Smokin Aces is not by Guy Ritchie, though it is similar in style, I saw a bit of it last night.

Seen both. Layercake pissed me off because they had the 'Serbian' gangsters speaking Romanian, like why not just make them Romanian, they have gangsters there too.

    Dead Man's Shoes was good.

"Smokin' Aces" was from the guy who made "Narc".

It got panned when it came out but I thought it was pretty good to.

Law Abiding Citizen: Revenge tale about a guy whose family is killed and he decides to kill just about everyone to get even. It starts off pretty good then gradually turns shittier and more implausible as the movie goes on. It later becomes about as believable as Commando, but this movie actually takes itself seriously. Over at imdb.com, all the people complain about the ending and how the movie was so good until the ending. No, it was good for about the first half of the film. It's not merely the ending that's crappy, it's the 2nd half of the movie.

ESPN 30 For 30- The U: Okay, it's not a movie, but I'm watching it right now and it's a real good documentary about the University of Miami football team in the 80s and early 90s.

There's a bunch of these been coming out. I have most of them on the DVR but haven't watched any yet. There's even one on Ali and Holmes. I'm really waiting on the one about Allen Iverson though.

Just watched Rise Of The Footsoldier.

No more than 5 out of 10. Most of those points are for some good nudity. Typical British mobster stuff that in the end doesn't really go anywhere. You spend the start of the film being introduced to the main character who then becomes nothing more than a footnote to the story's purpose.

This is not a good film.

Honestly I can't argue with that other than I think a 5 is a bit low for it. Overall it isn't that great a story, but it just had a bunch of pretty cool scenes and shocking ones too. I think I only watched it once myself.

    District 9: 7 out of 10

Decent film. Presented in a very different format than usual and works quite well for the most part. Refreshing to have the story happen somewhere other than America.

Wasn't as scrotum-tearingly good as I was told it was. Well worth a watch but I personally would be in no hurry to see it again.

Precious : Based on the Novel blah, blah, blah, blah - Saw this at the movies last night with the family.............yeah, we're a little odd. Aside from the horrendous title it was much better then I expected. Uncomfortable at times and took enough chances to more then make up for the usual cliches in these types of movies. Very well acted with some unusually funny moments.

I know some will hate this movie but I highly recommend it. Don't take the kids, even though I did.

Just watched it as well as Moon starring Sam Rockwell. Both were very good. Talk about a great 1-2 scifi punch. [IMG][IMG]
