Oh yeah, and as for this 'circumstancial evidence' business, let me assure Mister REED that not a single shred of what has gone on would lend a single scintilla of evidence in court. Not a single piece of it. This is a FACT and is the only reason why I am on this side of the debate.

That is the very position I am looking at this whole business from, in fact.

I REED a fair few boxing magazines, but I do so primarily for the reviews of fights I have seen (or moreover, those I haven't). These are reasonably factual by definition: it's difficult for a writer to 'claim' Fighter X won when, in fact, Fighter X got KTFO

There is a fair old difference between this sort of REEDing and the sort of article which reveals 'information' given by 'sources' in the lead up to a fight. The former is fairly well authenticable. The latter is not.

You must be the worst Professor on the planet. Are you really saying a free press is not an integral part of a free and democratic society?

I will however defer to your expertise as I didn't relies that I was speaking to a Prof but I'd love to sit in on one of your lectures when you teach that newspapers are worthless rags that have no use in our society and should not be believed.

I find it fascinating that you're so glued on Pac's nutsack that even your academic integrity is being compromised

I will however say that you have great material for a future lecture

I was going to write a serious response to this thread but Neil and Irish beat me to the pass, Tim Smith is a moron, he is about as credible as REED.

Speaking of which, REED continues to shit on his own face by coming in here slandering Pacquiao based on stuff Mayweather Sr. said, and "a source", and discrediting his most valued hero of the past decade aka Roid Jones Jr just so he can take more stabs at an innocent man. What a insipid semen sucker REED has turned out to be. I hope he doesn't teach his children these kind of values.

The reason you should be on the other side of the debate is this was never about a court of law and all of its procedures and mechanisms. In terms of boxing legacy and the court of public opinion Pac is digging his own grave without even stepping in the ring. Circumstantial evidence has taken down many better men than Pac in history. Are you going to wait until you see a video of him on youtube buying PED's for his dealer to change your views?

Whatever happens, I hope this is the beginning of the end for GBP.

Having a team of fighters as promoters was a novel idea, but the conflicts of interest that prevailed as a result will likely mean that by the time the dust has cleared, we will find out that GBP makes Don King look like a boyscout.

Newspapers are not all 'useless rags'. They are businesses, which operate to make money by telling stories, usually based on some factual happening, under the guise of 'news'. As a result, they have an inherent bias in what they report and how they report it, because some of the most important 'news' in the world simply wouldn't shift copy whereas certain things (Sport, Sex, Crime, Violence etc) shift a ton of papers. What gets published depends on the discretion of the journalist, who CHOOSES his topic for the day, and the editor, who CHOOSES what to put into print.

You think Rupert Murdoch owns so many media outlets because he is interested in retaining the fabric of a democratic society?

The best media outlets are those who are under a positive obligation to report news impartially and on a not-for-profit basis. This is why the BBC, among others, has a unqiue and respected position in the world as a comparatively sound source of current affairs and information.

THIS sort of press is of fundamental importance to a democratic society. Local tabloid papers full of sport, crime, violence and tits are not...

Oh, and my 'academic integrity' is in no way being compromised :notallthere:, because I remain utterly open to the possibility that Manny IS on PED's. As I said in the very first post I made in relation to this debate, that remains a possibility. Of course it does.

But it is JUST a possibility at this stage, and no more, because there is nothing substantive in the way of actual PROOF. Just a lot of chinese whispers, unverifiable 'sources' and the loud opinions of Roger Mayweather and Paulie Mallinaggi.

    Some case...

I don't doubt that Manny has dealt with this very, very poorly. I said so from the outset. It might be that he has done so because he is guilty. Who knows? I don't, and nor does anyone else for that matter...

I always look at things from a legal perspective, especially when, like this, there are potential legal reprecussions in respect of the Court of Sport's Arbitration, Libel and Defamation. I'm a lawyer: what the hell would you expect?

The FACTS as they stand are that Manny has never failed any drugs test or even so much as been suspected of having done so prior to the last week or so. Until something substantial occurs to alter these FACTS, and by substantial I don't mean journalistic 'sources', the Court of Public Opinion  or Roger fucking Mayweather, then the FACT remains that he is innocent.

Court or no Court, a person is innocent until PROVEN guilty. Not innocent until accused by people with vested interests...

Not at all.....I read the articles, safe in the knowledge that if they say something I like, its only because they are owned by somebody who thinks a bit like me, or likes what I like.

If I dont like it, which is largely the case, then its the inverse.

It makes no real odds, the vast majority of what Ring prints is rubbish- soft, safe shite.

Its like a BS movie. You can watch it, enjoy it, but at the end of the day, you dont believe it.

Thats what I am saying. I read "FightWriter"....Graham Houston, who has his own flaws, his own Pro-Brit views. He is not perfect, but by and large he is as honest as they come. One look at his website and you can see it lacks the "corporate" feel of other sites.

I read his stuff just to see if he saw the fight the same way I do. He rarely gets stuck into the sickly-sweet praise or the acerbic vitriol of other writers. He just tries to walk between the raindrops and tell us about the fight.

Murdoch actually launched an attack on the BBC recently, as they are preventing him from charging money for news. As long as the BBC is FTV, then so too will Sky "News".

Murdoch is a reprehensible piece of shit.:fightme:

Since U're 1 of those RIDING this "Court" Premise, This "Fact" of Yours IS NOT True...A JURY of Manny's PEERS would B the 1's to Determine his Guilt or Innocence Based on the Circumstantial Evidence...& a Jury of his Peers would See Things VERY MUCH like a Boxing Messageboard Does...

Oh, and in the UK, civil trials are, by and large, not heard by a jury. They only hear criminal trials. Civil trials, as this would be, would be heard by a single judge. We decided here a long time ago that normal folk are too emotional and dumb to hear this sort of case...

    1. Manny DOESN'T TRUST his Ability to PASS a Random Drug Test
    2. Manny DOESN'T LIKE his Chances of BEATING Floyd w/Out PED's

I know you like Manny(So do I), but this whole thing is HIS fault...

All Manny had to do was AGREE to the testing and this wouldn't be a discussion now. Instead he's walking away from the biggest purse of his career and acting like a complete DIVA instead of manning up and doing the right thing.

PBF himself has agreed to take the VERY SAME test and yet still Pacquiao and his team are acting like BITCHES...

Sadly its looking more and more like Manny has something to hide.

    Or:

    3. Manny doesn't see any good reason why he should bow to the request of Floyd Mayweather in a pre-fight negotiation

    4. Manny thinks that rules in respect of drug testing should be made by sanctioning bodies or commissions, not opponents

    5. Manny doesn't believe that he should be the only fighter in history to take these tests

All as plausable as your suggestions...

and because he thinks this, he's willing to kill his legacy and walk away from 40 million? This is your inner Pac bias talking it has nothing to do with logic or rational sense.

For about the 50th time: I hate catchweights. You'll find me, front and centre, in the debate before the Cotto fight where I made it clear that Cotto should have the right to fight at 147 if his title was on the line.

    Try again...

If # 3 is GENUINE, then the Term "PRIDE Before the FALL" APTLY Applies to Pacquiao...If Pac is TRUELY Clean, yet he's WILLINGLY Allowing PRIDE to Dictate his Actions, then he's a COMPLETE DUMBASS...Pac's Reputation has Taken Some MAJOR Hits Over the Last Week...The Type of Hits that Only PASSING a Test will ALLEVIATE...Even YOU CAN'T Deny that the EASIEST Way to Make All of this Go Away is for Pac to Just AGREE to Random Testing...So Again, if he's Clean yet WILLINGLY Allowing PRIDE to Keep him from Making this Fight Happen, he's a DUMBASS...

    # 4 Would Carry MORE Weight if Manny Didn't have a HISTORY of INVENTING his OWN Catchweights for "Welterweight" Title Bouts...Unless 145 is a LEGITIMATE Division According to ANY Commisssion or Sanctioning Body, Manny's ALREADY Shot HIMSELF in the Foot on this 1...

Manny WOULDN'T B the Only Fighter in History to Take the Tests....His OPPONENT Would B Taking them w/Him...

Dude, this is where you are completely wrong. All I said was that there are a LOT of plausable explanations and very few FACTS available. That is all.

I'm merely playing Devil's Advocate in the face of a fairly substantial anti-pac backlash here, trying to open a few minds to the FACT that this isn't as cut and dried as some people are trying to pass it off as based on what we actually KNOW as of now.

Again, as I have said, there is every chance that Manny is avoiding these tests because he is taking PED's. I'm merely pointing out that this isn't the ONLY possible explanation...

I wouldn't disgaree with most of this. I've already said that Manny has dealt with this business like a complete and utter idiot, whatever the reasons or the eventual outcome. Of course he has. I'm simply pointing out that there are other possible explanations to consider.

As it stands, Manny has to respond positively to what has happened ASAP. This issue remains live and he needs to deal with it properly and not with BS and other siliness.

But as it stands, calling him an outright drug cheat is outrageous, because the only evidence to support this is a few accusations by people with loud mouths and vested interests and his refusal to bow to Mayweather in a pre-fight negotiation. As I said: some case...

And when Manny is WRONG to go outside them, I call it as such.
