White Chimes In on Pacquiao-Mayweather

I agree boxing is more popular and lucrative than MMA, but that's quickly swinging the other direction. It's not there yet, but MMA has momentum, and guys like Floyd with their accusations and inability to fight anyone worthwhile is killing the sport.

 

yeah if Dana ran boxing Mayweather and Pacquiao will be making 1 million each and Dana&Company will be making the other 60-70 million...

 

Regardless of your thoughts on MMA, there are a lot of long time boxing fans who have grown frustrated with the sport, and if the Pac\Floyd fight doesn't come off, or there is a lengthy delay, the damage done to the sport could be irreparable.

My interest in boxing has drifted away quite a bit over the last few years, but this fight has piqued my interest more than any 'Super' fight I can think of in the past 5-6 years at least. But if it doesn't come off, or it comes off in 2011 or 2012...well then it just loses most of it's luster.

It would be the latest, and easily the most damaging example of boxing being it's own worst enemy.

Well, suppose it is a "Golden Age" for European fighters. To what do you attribute it?

I think it's due at least in part to the fall of the USSR, which has given way to more opportunities for Eastern European fighers, whether they stayed in their country or not.

If this is the case, then one could argue that it was due to the political climate that the U.S. "ever" dominated Europe in boxing, in which case, as you suggested, it's more a case of Europe having improved in boxing than in the U.S. having gotten worse.

Still, it's a fair question - why can't U.S. boxers, in general, dominate European ones the way they used to?

As opposed to no one making anything and the fight not happening from whomever's running boxing now. Oh, and I will fight both of them on the same day, at the same time for 1 million dollars. How anyone from a sport that boasts Oscar, King, Arum as it's finest could make fun of Dana is beyond me, hell MMA could have prisoner #384819341 and do a better job. It's easy for Dana to make many of the fights people want to see. He has most of the top product in MMA and if he doesn't he can create/hype some up.

Send Dana to a different MMA organization see what he can do....

 

I'm not a big fan of MMA but I do believe that the mayweather-pacquiao fight has to go off without a hitch for the prolonged success of boxing in America. It is definitely on the downswing and needs a burst of new energy soon. Someone in the next generation of boxers has to catch people's attention and make it en vogue in america again. If it's a heavyweight then all the better.

Of course, when megafights come off, people come out of the woodwork to see the fights. Stars of all caliber. That's not something you see with MMA...yet.

Nossir- I saw two fights at the local bar last friday

 

If fight such as; Ortiz-Lidell 3, Couture-Coleman and UFC's version of Mayweather-Matthew Hatton aka GSP-Hardy are the best fights in the UFC then the UFC is in big trouble.

I must be missing them freebies. UFC has more PPV's a year than does boxing.
