    Death of Miguel Cotto's father

He died while apparently on his way to one of the petrol garages administered to her son in Caguas

Don Miguel Cotto Carrasquillo, father of three-time champion of the same name and a veteran judge and referee amateur international, was killed while driving in his hometown of Caguas, in the exit toward San Lorenzo near the shopping center Oscar Cash & Carry.

According to a family spokesman, Don Miguel, who apparently was heading to one of the petrol garages administered to his son.

According to Emily Rodriguez, Caguas press officer, at 3:15 pm Don Miguel business stopped at the Balcony on the road 183 km 5.5, Sector El Cinco, after falling ill and fell onto the pavement almost immediately getting off his car.

"We know he had several ailments and had an oxygen machine on when he got his car for help. It is believed he died of a heart attack when the ambulance arrived and was already dead, "said Rodriguez.

Melissa Guzman, Miguel Cotto's wife, son, was among the first families who came to the place.

"I can not believe it," the president of the Boxing Commission of Puerto Rico, Delgado Dommys Berty. "He suffered from asthma, but it is amazing. It is a tragedy. He worked more with the amateur. "

Well, sorry to hear that as he was a man that evidently loved boxing and devoted a considerable portion of his life to the sport, so he was ok by me.

    there's more:

The person helping him called 911 from 2:04 pm to 2:53 pm and the ambulance never arrived

No fue pasada las 3:15 p.m., cuando pasaba casualmente por el área una patrulla y se detuvo ante los pedidos de auxilio de los presentes.

Finally, at 3:15 pm a police car patrolling the area stopped at the signals of the people present. By the time the ambulance came, he was already dead.

Lesson learned: Don't you ever dare to have a heart attack in Puerto Rico

What do you expect from Ricans? I mean, there's a reason we shouldn't let them become a state.

In quite a tragic story, Miguel Cotto Sr., father of two-division champion Miguel Cotto and junior welterweight contender Jose Miguel Cotto, passed away after suffering a heart attack while driving his car in Caguas, Puerto Rico. Cotto felt ill while driving, he stopped his car and asked a clerk, Douglas Melendez, who worked at a local liquor store to call an ambulance. Cotto died not long after.

"He stopped [his car] and asked me to call an ambulance. I went and I called," Melendez told Primera Hora.

Melendez complained that he called 911 at least four times before help arrived. He called at 2:04 pm, 2:14 pm, 2:15 pm and 2:53 p.m. The last call was to report the death of Cotto. Both Cotto childred arrived at the scene once the news hit.

Evangelista Cotto, the brother of Cotto Sr., was barely able to speak when he gave his thoughts on the death of his brother. The two of them had not spoken in months after Evangelista and Miguel Cotto Jr. had their explosive blow-up at the start of 2009. Evangelista and Cotto Jr. traded words over a dispute on how the training camp would run for June's Joshua Clottey defense. It led to a physical brawl that sent Evangelista to the hospital and Miguel Jr. hired a new trainer. Evangelista later filed a lawsuit against the younger Cotto. Cotto Sr. took the side of his son.

Evangelista regrets never patching things up with Cotto Sr.

"It is unfortunate that we never sat down to talk and fix things. These are things that one has no control over. This is very sad. ... It's an incredible pain and suffering for me," said Evangelista to Primera Hora.

Felix Trinidad Sr., father and trainer of three-division champion Felix "Tito" Trinidad, took some time to talk about Cotto Sr.

"This news saddens me very much. What a way to start the year," said Trinidad. "I know the Cotto family for many years and although we did not share much, I know he was a good man. My condolences to Miguel Cotto, his wife and whole family."

RIP. MY thoughts are with Cotto and his family. I think this is the end of Cotto's career as well. Very sad. He seemed like a decent and caring man.

180000 Americans die every year as a result of mis-diagnosis and incorrect treatment.
Are you in favor of increasing chances of every American death as a result of mis-diagnosis and incorrect treatment?

So why dont they get some? Many people that dont have health Insurance are eligable for some sort of govt Assistance, but either A. dont get them or B dont know about it. Also do those 45k include illegals?

Perhaps they can't afford the premiums. Maybe they had insurance but when they got sick the insurance companies canceled their policies due to the bill being to costly to their wallets. Or maybe they had pre-existing conditions which once again the insurance company decided to cancel their policy. Perhaps it's all of the above. I'll Holla 5000

    Universal health care has premiums.

And if you don't pay them it's to the clink.

wtf are you guys talking about universal health care for??

This man obviously could pay the bill, but the slow ass ambulance took hours. It's a matter of horrible service. This shit happens to those who are insured as well as to those who are not.

Fuckign third world countries, might have been saved in a normal country where an ambulance can arrive in you know, less than an hour.

If he was a president, the ambulance would've arrived in less than 45 minutes (maybe even in half an hour).
Of course, Puerto-Rico doesn't even have a president, so it's a moot point.
