http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&id=24637 Glad he finally made the right choice.:bears: Thats the last we'll ever see of JT on the top level. Sadly they'll probably put that bum Allen Green in now. I WISH Bute would enter.
Roy just didn't have Jermaine's country essence, I know it's a sub-goal that Roy wanted to achieve, but as soon as Jermaine came along,. he was no longer the 'country icon' he desperately wanted to be, and he knew this. Sure, it may not seem like such a big deal, but to Roy, it really was....he was owned.
I started out as a Taylor hater but started to like the guy after he insisted on a rematch with Pavlik...when his management didn't want the fight. I'm glad he's out..I have no desire to see him knocked out badly again. Abraham beat his ass then knocked him out...i'd hate to see Ward do the same. On th eplus side...I hope Allan Green gets the spot. Ward will whup his ass badly. Green's got a punchers chance, but that's it.
Bika-Green essentially becomes a play-in. They're fighting on February 5. It was originally to determine the first alternate, but now with a vacancy, the fight becomes for the #6 seed, with the winner fighting Ward 2 1/2 months later.
if, If, IF Allan Green Works his Way into the Tourney, he's Gonna KO Andre Ward...YEP, REED Said It.... REED:hammert:
Someone, somewhere needs to get Lucian Bute's ass on the telephone and make sure he gets himself in. Simple. MTF
He better have dropped that stupid habit of looking at his shoes if he's going to fight these guys. He will get blasted at this level doing that stupid shit.
OR, Maybe Green Wins a World Title In SPITE of that Habit & Fighters EMULATE it for Generations to Come... REED::
Bika's a Pretty GOOD Test for Green...Green's Chin is SUSPECT, he Gets COMPLACENT & LOSES Focus Rather Easily...On Top of that, Bika's NEVER Been Stopped...So If Greens BLASTS him Out of there, it's MEANINGFUL...If Green CAN'T, he's Gonna have to Show a Level of MATURITY & CONSISTENCY That we HAVEN'T Seen from him Yet... Green's Gonna have to EARN his Way into the Tournament, that's for Sure... REED:bears:
Good, excellent decision. Despite his horrible jittery style etc, for some reason I don't mind Taylor. I wouldn't want to see him bashed up again. Hopefully he just comes back for 1 or 2 gimme fights then retires.
I agree, Bika is one tough SOB. It's no guarantee Green gets by him at all. Not only is Bika durable as hell, he's got a good workrate and gas tank. This will be a fun fight for sure. Green has his work cut out for him no doubt.
Financially, a horrible decision for Jermain. Why does Green/Bika get the entry over Bute? Not only does Bute have the perfect rest to take over for Taylor, he's already beaten Bika and is rated higher than Green?
Horrible? Al Haymon negotiated a buyout on Taylor's behalf, meaning he's basically getting paid to not take another punch in the tournament - and apparently still has the option to continue his career if he so chooses. Bute is being groomed for an April date on HBO (in fact, on the same day as Ward's fight) and are content with staying on that side of the block, facing everyone else while the Super Six plays out.
I have to admit I am still a big fan of Taylor and was hoping for some miraculous comeback. Two heart breaking losses in a row, I thought he beat Hopkins clearly both times and earned a draw vs. Winky, was near to KO'ing Pavlik in the first fight then takes an immediate rematch - love the guys willingness to fight the best this is probably for the best, but i am sad there won;t be a miraculous super six comeback from Jermaine
Just for clarification, whoever takes Jermaine's place in the tournament, is it correct to assume they would inherit his 'points' as well, ie they will start with the disadvantage of having only 2 fights to accumulate enough points to make it to the final ? Effectively they must win both fights ?
I'm sure they inherit the points in this case since there aren't any. 3 fighters have 0 points; 2 have 2; 1 has 3. The top 4 move on and I don't know how they do tie-breakers, but assume it starts out with head-to-head matchups. I do not think that tie-breaker is fair to the guy joining the event. In any case, it would not appear that the new guy has to win 2 fights to make it to the next round of 4 fighters.
