The only person that Roy could be seen to have "avoided" is Mickelboofski, and I don't even consider he ducked boofski. Boofski hardly made a huge effort to fight Jones either. Why didn't he fight in America? Make the fans notice him and clamour for a fight with Jones? The way I see it, they "ducked" each other. Neither fighter made much effort to make a fight with the other one, it was no more Jones' fault than Boofski. Roy was unfortunate that he only encountered two truly great fighters in his prime, Toney and Nard. Roy had far more balls than Floyd though. Roy challenged himself by fighting Ruiz, I honestly thought Ruiz would win, for the same reason I picked Oscar to beat Pacman, I thought he was just too big. When was the last time Floyd fought someone you thought was capable of beating him? Floyd has also had more options - challenge wise - for fucking years, and has somehow fought none of them apart from an aging Oscar. Roy gets too much shit I think, he didn't have the same level of competition as some of the lower weights for example, but still beat Toney, Hopkins, and Ruiz at heavyweight. That beats anything Floyd has done.
Yup. But funny you should say that Irish, because nobody in the media world mentioned Manny on PEDs either after he smashed Oscar, Hatton and Cotto - until the super sharp, all knowing Floyd Sr started blurting shit out of his big ugly mouth.
Well, his bones, skull and muscles haven't rapidly started to grow at 30+ years of age like another little cretin we know. Has Manny got a tumour on the pituitary gland or how about HGH Irish?..
The media hasn't, but there has certainly been a fair share of underground speculation regarding Hopkins. Of course, nothing on the level of what Manny is enduring now. But there are a lot of fighters you have to consider if we are to believe that boxers, like other athletes, have found a way to cheat the system, and Bernard would certainly be on that list. Perhaps it's why he's the only member of G who hasn't said much about Pacquiao? Or perhaps he truly believes Pac is legit because they're both clean
and yes, while this fight is an absolute joke, I'm glad it's on PPV. $50 I won't have to spend, and it's better than their taking up an HBO WCB slot that can now go to far more deserving fighters. The only downside would be is if a kick-ass undercard is included. Then you'd almost feel compelled to buy it, even knowing that the main event is what it is.
How can Hopkins NOT be on something?.. as if he isn't IN on some of this shit,.. what's stopping him?.. a conscience?... But that's not the point,.. if you're going to compare scenario's Hopkins would have to move up to heavyweight and start wiping them out, suddenly looking the best he's ever looked with unbelieveable, physics defying power that isn't reflective of his middleweight KO ratio at all. Then I reckon the eyebrows would start to arch, even before his opponent requests a mutual random drug test, only to have him kick back in a bazerk fit withdrawing from his highest payday instantly... then,..............THEN,... I reckon... we'll have the same kinda situation you're referring to.
At this point all these fights should count against Roy´s legacy. In his prime he would have killed them shit doesn´t mean a damn thing to me. He has chosen to sell his name for at least three fuckin million a KO, why should it not count? He lost to Tarver twice, lost to Johnson, lost to Calzaghe, lost to Green, will lose to Hopkins and that´s 25 fuckin million dollars right there (if it´s enough) and we should leave his legacy alone? He jumped to 175, when all the challenges were at 168, he didn´t seek out the few elite fights/fighters at 175 or 190 in his prime either, but now we are suppoed to cut him some slack, because he´s washed-up? Hell no. Maybe one or two bad losses till you realize/know/accept you are done, but if you sell your ass like a prostitute over and over again, at some point, that counts against your legacy.
I can't remember a Jones Jr. fight with a kickass undercard. Maybe someone else will, but there can't be many.
:atu: Kick ass undercard? Featuring the return of Derrick Gainer? Rock Allen gets a regional title shot?
Interesting. To be honest I never have heard anything about Hopkins. Do you think this speculation is just hunches in essence, because fighting to the level that he does at his age is illogical, or is it based on something more than that?
Don't know. It's not unprecedented. Archie Moore was competitive into his mid 40's. Of course there's Big George. Sugar Ray Robinson was fighting top guys in his 40's.
Hopkins is a boxing historian and wants to join the line of great middleweight sociopaths such as Jake LaMotta & Carlos Monzon. Sugar Ray Robinson? I don't know, he was just a POS, I don't know about sociopath.
Roy was a good commentator when he wasn't sucking his own dick on air. I liked him the best of the HBO boxer/commenators. Too bad he burned too many bridges there, but maybe he'll pick up commentating somewhere else.
5 years ago i would have wanted Hopkins to Beat Roy. Today, i want Roy to Knock Hopkins out. I think it would be the funniest thing ever.
Don't even post in this thread you welcher. Remember our suicide bet? Yea, I never forogot. Make it right and kill yourself.:nono:
Some people have cried at me wearing Andrei Chikatilo's evil head in me Av,.. but alot of them would proudly wear a shrine dedicated to their hero and murderer Carlos Monzon. I know Lamotta was a crook,.. but what was wrong with Ray?
Ray used to beat up his wife and kids on the regular. His son said his abuse of his wife caused her to have 5 miscarriages.
Yeah he did charitable things too,.. and there you have it,.. that's a key,.. Ray formed charities but beat the shit out of his wife, Wlad assists with charities and then loads his gloves,.. and Pacquiao donates money back into his community, so that means his innocent.
