yup/ How much would he expect to be offered if he called up the president of the Dallas Cowboys and said he wanted to play quarter back for them?
this whole thing was obviously some lame cross-over promotion for both sides to gets some attention to each other
I think it's just another case of someone trying to hop on board the MMA bandwagon. In the past few years we've seen boxers, professional wrestlers, baseball players, football players, rappers, actors, TV personalities, etc, all try their hand at MMA. Toney realizes he is barely relavant in boxing these days, saw Mercer land his Hail Mary againt Sylvia, and figured he could do the same. Of course, he greatly overestimated his value, claiming it would be 'the biggest fight ever', when in truth I haven't seen too many fans, boxing or MMA, clamoring to see Toney in MMA. I would love to see the numbers offered from both sides. TFK
Better off this way. Toney would have got destroyed, and it would have been a joke. Let him go beat up on Ruiz.
the top guys in mma earn 100,000's, Im sure Toney could double that fee fighting some HW bum. The offer was always going to be a joke
Good point. I think Dana knows this as well. I think if Dana white is going to do something like this, it will be with a boxer in his prime. Toney getting KOed doesnt do anything for either orginazation.
I understand why DAna lowballed him, too much risk vs too little reward. Toney wouldn't bring that much viewers, he's only known to the hardcore and we know he's done. And if he manages to ko a top guy, it makes mma in general in the UFC in particular look very very bad. would still have love to see him vs a guy like Liddell
Toney said he was sitting behind Liddell at one of the last UFC's and said Liddell was terrified of him But then again Toney thinks everybody is afraid of him. ::
Yes they will, but it won't matter. After the fight people will realize what a joke it was. That would be bad business.
