Hey Reed, are you happy with the way Floyds career has developed and the guys he has fought along the way.

:bears: Viva boxing! I was gutted when the fight fell through, but since both guys are fighting THE best guys available, the sour taste is almost washed right out my mouth. If both fights are exciting I'll take 'almost' right out that sentence.

My post was partly in reponse to what I read on the first page of the thread. Mosley was past it and the fight was a decade too late, etc.

While it is true that Mosley isn't the welter he was after beating Oscar the first time, he is still no worse than 4th in the division. And considering that the other 3 welters would probably have to be PBF, Manny, and Margarito/Cotto this makes Mosley the ONLY opponent PBF could fight at 147 and have it be a worthy substitute for the Pacquiao fight.

People can say that they would pick Clottey to beat Shane and all of that, but Shane has better wins on his resume and is not coming off of a loss to a guy that Pacquiao destroyed.

I am pretty neutral in the Pacquiao-Mayweather hatefest, but I suspect that if the opponents were reversed, Pacquiao would be getting ALL of the love for fighting the tougher Sugar Shane Mosley... meanwhile they'd be saying that Mayweather was fighting Cotto's leftovers.

    Just a hunch.

    Wow.....justy wow.....I'm speechless.
Mayweather taking on yet ANOTHER undisputed, true, linear welterweight champion of the world?
Seriosly, Mayweather already fought one undisputed, true, linear welterweight champion of the world (Judah).
Then, he fought another undisputed, true, linear welterweight champion of the world (Baldomir).
Then, he fought another undisputed, true, linear welterweight champion of the world (ODLH).
And now he fights (yet again) undisputed, true, linear welterweight champion of the world (Mosley)?

Mayweather's resume at 147 is not just impressive....it's breathtaking....

"Happy"???...NO...But to Say that Floyd has "Cherry Picked" ISN'T 100% Factual Either...

Floyd TRIED to Face Miguel Cotto, but Back Then Arum AND Team Cotto Said he "Wasn't Ready"...Floyd TRIED to Face Sugar Shane, but Mrs. Mosley had OTHER Plans for Shane...

So in the Interim, Floyd Fought Guys like Zab, Baldomir, Dela & Hatton...The SAME Boxing Fans that BITCHED about Floyd "Ducking" Hatton have NOW Relegated Lil' Ricky to the Scrap Heap of those that Floyd "Cherry Picked"...The Thing is, WHO had Problems w/those Fights AT THE TIME???...Virtually NO ONE...Yet there's BOATLOADS of Hindsight Criticism Over those Bouts...

For REED to B "Happy", Floyd's Gonna HAVE to Face Sugar Shane, Manny Pac & @ Least 1 More Top Notch Guy...

i hope pacquiao destroys Clottey. that will have no bearing on how he will perform vs. Floyd but it will certainly make the odds closer

I wouldn't worry about Pacquiao's head if I were you,.. as he naturally put on muscle to wade up the weight classes, he did some excersizes to make his skull grow aswell.

    Bullshit.

People only complain when guys like Malignaggi and Mathew Hatton are mentioned. All anyone wants to see is Floyd fight a fuckign welterweight. Clottey is a legit WW and a top 10 WW no doubt.

I would not complain if the roles were reversed. Floyd would NEVER fight a guy like Clottey though. Even the biggest Floyd fan can't debate this. Clottey is an all risk no reward fight. Not something Floyd would take.

I have absolutely no problem with that is happening right now. Both are great fights and I will watch both of them. Mosley vs Floyd is the fight I have wanted for years. Props to both of them if this gets made.

I guess we wouldn't ever know for sure, but I disagree very strongly. If Pacquiao took on Mosley next he would be praised to the Heavens to taking on the top Welterweight who conquered the other man to stop Cotto (plaster or no plaster).

And if Floyd took on Clottey he would be a top ten welterweight but he was Cotto's leftovers, he already lost to Cotto and Pacquiao just beat Cotto so its a soft touch.

Revise history all you guys want - Judah and Baldomir were legit top ten WW's when Floyd fought them. Fine Judah was a former 140 pounder and had lost to Baldy... but Baldomir was a legit top ten natural WW.

Who's crucifying PBF now? Why would they crucify him over Clottey?

You're acting like he has a track record of doing anything but fighting guys not ranked in his own division.

Mosley (and Clottey) are a departure for PBF - let's face it.

What PBF needs to do is to fight guys like Mosley consistently.

Floyd and Schaefer have already publicly stated that Olympic style drug testing will be a stipulation for any of his fights from here on out. Shane's well aware of this and is already on record in agreeing to such testing. Malignaggi stated in advance that he'd also gladly undergo such testing if he was chosen to fight Floyd (which thankfully isn't the case).

    Sorry but that's absolute bollocks.

Nobody was crucifying Floyd for fighting Cintron, they were giving him credit for at least fighting a proper welterweight (including me).

I think a lot of people hold Clottey in higher regard than Cintron, Floyd would not get crucified at all if he fought Clottey, people would give him credit for at least fighting a proper, solid welterweight.

He came under fire for names like Matthew Hatton, Campbell and Malignaggi beign mentioned, and rightfully so :kidcool:

I'm not revising anything, I'm talking about today. I would not complain one bit if Floyd signed to fight Clottey. Quote history all you want, it doesn't change my opinion at all.

  19. *Z*

*Z* WBC Silver Diamond Emeritus Champ

Anyone can look at the thread and see that I also said Cintron would be acceptable.

A good fight gets made and Floyd fans are still trying to argue about shit that didn't even happen? What the fuck is wrong with you people.

  20. Hitman

If Floyd were fighting Clottey and Pacquiao were fighting Mosley, i think Floyd would come under pretty heavy criticism and Pacquiao even more hero worship for taking the more dangerous opponent.

That's just my opinion - the revisionist historians would be out and about claiming Clottey to be a top ten WW but in reality he was Cotto leftovers who chokes in all his big fights

like i said we can't really know for sure. the way most of you act it's pretty easy to assume how you would bash floyd and praise pac if their opponents were reversed.

You're just wrong, plain and simple. Like I said, leave it to Floyd fans to argue about something that never even happened. You know what they say about ASSuming.

I am still waiting for someone to point out who is "shitting" on this fight?Floyd will though. If Manny Pacman had losses what about Shane? I guess Floyd relaxed his rule and now will only fight fighters who have never been knocked out. Reed is funny. He argued for weeks that the Mayweather haters would shit on any move Floyd made and no one has. So, my take wasn't positive enough so I am "shitting" on Floyd. This fight is happening 10 years too late(fact) but better now than never. I said I have really no better suggestions besides Pacman for Floyd. I wanted to fight a real welter and he is. Can't see how that is shitting on the fight.

And I am not particularly a Floyd fan, no more than I am a Pac fan at least. I do think that Floyd has been unfairly criticized recently tho. so assume away, at least i have a basis for my ASSumption

No logic, only assumptions. We complain about Floyd fighting a LW so that means we would complain about Floyd fighting a legit top WW. Sure, makes sense. Then you bring up Baldomir, which is stupid because the complaint there was not Floyd fighting Baldomir, it was Floyd NOT fighting Margarito when that was the fight the fans wanted to see. Are you going to tell me that Baldomir was the fight the fans wanted? Brian Kenny don't count for shit so don't use the REED argument "Brian Kenny said so!"

I would rather see this fight than Floyd vs Manny. It's not so much that I think Shane is better, it's more the fact that I have wanted this fight to happen for years. Manny has time, Shane not so much. Floyd vs Manny can come later. Mosley can't wait around any longer.

You want to complain Z. We all know it. You hate Floyd and no matter what you say, you hate him so your opinion is worthless. If Floyd wants to fight in May, you will hate on him for March. If Floyd fought Pacman, you would say pbf WINS EASY what a bitch for fighting a midget like Pac. If he fought Williams, Williams lost to Quintana and Martinez, Floyd is a bum. Reed and the nutlickers know our thoughts, so why type them.:lol:

  30. Hitman

I feel like people are criticizing Floyd for not fighting the best fighters. JMM aside, you had DLH & Hatton who are the same two fighters Pacquiao fights and gets all this praise for beating. I think it would have been perpetuated if these opponents (clottey & mosley) were reversed, Pacquiao would get all the praise and Floyd more criticism.

People respond by saying "clottey would have been fine he is a top ten WW" well the revisionists forget that Judah and Baldy were both top ten WW's also... not sure if that applies to you personally, but it applies to a lot of people who are unfairly critical of Floyd's recent competition and despite your internet icons its a fact that they revise history to belittle and discredit most of Floyd's resume over the past few years.

and i don't know what Brian Kenny said, but Baldomir had a more credible WW win than Margarito did at that point and he was the linear champion. Floyd fought him then DLH, I don't think it's anything but pure hatred to criticize Floyd for that career path
