Your ignorance of the sport is clearly shown by this statement.

I love when people refer to Lesnar as a 'WWE wrestler', completely ignoring his elite NCAA wrestling pedigree and freakish athleticism.

As if the few years he spent in the WWE actually contributed something to his MMA skills.

I love when people ignore Lesnar despite years of arguing that you have to be well rounded to compete in MMA at a high level.

It's impossible to excel in every area of fighting, I mean John Ruiz has been one of the best heavyweight boxers for many years and yet does he excel in speed? Power? Footwork? Defense? NO, he just like Lesnar excels in wrestling. :crafty:

Lesnar is obviously the exception and not the rule. His size, strength, agility and power, coupled with his elite wrestling skills (wrestling being arguably the most valuable skill in MMA), has enabled him to succeed at the highest level in spite of his deficiencies in other areas.

Of course, you already knew that.

I agree with this bolded statement about boxing declining vs. UFC/MMA. I think this is the middle ground that I come to in this subject where a lot of people are on the extreme ends - either Boxing is dead, or UFC is nothing but a fad. Really neither are true.

Boxing is losing ground tto MMA, imo IN THE USA. And you are absolutely right that its boxings own doing, they are not running the sport to try and attract new fans, while UFC/MMA is actively marketing their product and putting it out there constantly.

To be fair on the PPV numbers tho - UFC killed boxing in numbers but it also had many more PPV events this year. UFC 100 is also the biggest UFC card ever, a monumental card and event... not to say that they won't have another one soon, but its worth mentioning

I think UFC 114, which as of now is tentatively scheduled to have Lesnar vs the Mir\Carwin winner and Rampage\Rashad as co-main events will come pretty close to UFC 100's numbers, if not be even higher, especially if the rest of the card is solid.

UFC 110-114 are all loaded and I can't see any of them doing less than 500,000 buys, except maybe 110 because that's in Australia and will be on tape delay.

That's fair - i agree that most won't do under 500k. But save this post, UFC 114 won't surpass UFC 100.

You need to stop talking about boxing.
    Reed needs to stop.
    I need to stop.

Thats bullshit. Dana white can call out boxing all he wants. The best thing for boxing is the UFC right now. Boxing needs to take a hard look in the mirror. Boxing needs to be handled better. I love boxing and would love to see it run like the UFC. There is room for both.

The attacks come from both sides. And both sides look juvenile when they make the attacks.

The UFC is one company...and lucky for them they have the deepest pockets in MMA. They usually pay more than the other MMA companies around...it doesn't take much to run the UFC. They have most of the top talent and have 'em fight each other for peanuts.

Where else are these fighter going to go??

Regulating boxing is a harder job....it's a worldwide sport. It's not like the NBA, NFL, MLB etc...it more like FIFA.....boxers from different countries having to follow the rules and regulation of one organization? Tough to make happen...

Its not just the UFC. There so many Amateur MMA orginzations out there doing great. MMA in total is going very well, not just UFC

Are the PPV sales figures for MMA quoted by Godfather (I think) worldwide figures or US figures?

    I'm genuinely curious.

    I think they're domestic, but I'm not 100% sure.

I know UFC PPV's air free in a lot of foreign countries.

Yeah, I think UFC is free to view in the UK if you have ESPN? It used to be on Setanta, I think.

Is the UFC PPV anywhere other than the US?

Everything live in OZ is PPV.

Even Matthew Hatton v Lovemore N'Dou...which was shown on two day tape delay, was a PPV.

That Jones Jr v Green/Hopkins v Mexican fella....that was two separate PPV's here.

Jesus. I had no fucking idea.

I just kind of assumed that Australian boxing coverage would be similar to English - not very good but mostly free (or at least cable/satellite).
