Why can't no one answer a simple question? :dunno:
How old was Ray Mercer when he fought the younger sister?

Mercer could have been 120 years of age...the triple left hook Wlad floored him with was, as Reed {late of fightbeat.com} might say, "Roy-esque". And Mercers age was never going to be able to detract from that. There are very few fighters out there who can hit the bag like that, much less floor a live opponent who had never been down from a headshot in his pro career.

Does anyone know how old was Ray Mercer when he fought the younger sister?
This seems to be one of the most important fights of Wlad's career, so can anyone answer a simple question?

He was the same age as Kobozev and Tua and Jones and Valuev and Holyfield:laughing:

    I believe he was 40

Wow, hold on there, sport.......You mean, one of the biggest achievements of Wlad's career is a victory over 40 years old fighter, whose last meaningful victory had been 8 years prior?
Is this the same Ray Mercer, who, at the age of 28, was completely outclassed by 46-years old Larry Holmes?

I don't know where you guys are going with this but Mercer was 41 and hadn't had a relevent win since his questionable (imo) decision over Tim Witherspoon which was over 5 years prior

Why do you feel the need to bash one of Wlad's biggest victories with these "facts"?

Can you read? Who said it was his biggest achievement?? Where did anyone say that?

One of Ruiz biggest achievements was drawing with a 40 year old Oldyfield.

    You did :dunno:
What does Ruiz have to do with anything? :dunno:

No I didnt. Show me where I said it was Wlads greatest achievement?

Why do you feel the need to bring Ruiz into this topic? :dunno:

    huh? :dunno:
Seriously, getting back to the topic, seeing people gash over Wlad's performance against ancient Mercer is both funny and disgusting.
This is the same Mercer, who, at age 28, got outboxed by 46-years old Larry Holmes. :dunno:
Wlad had a somewhat decent career (unlike his utterly bummish brother), there's no need to mention the farcical Mercer bout as anything significant.

    Matter of opinion, I guess.
What is not matter of opinion, though, is that the fight itself was devoid of any meaning.

WBO title was on the line.

And Wlads WBA title is on the line on April 3rd

Exactly. That's what I meant when I said that the fight was devoid of any meaning. I'm sure, in Wlad's mind WBE,WBU,WBO, WBF, and whatever other trinklets he had, were all significant.....Too bad, real boxing fans know otherwise....

Is he fighting another bum or did he finally decide to step up?

I believe it was the first time Mercer was knocked down.

Evander Holyfield would disagree with you.

I believe it was the first time Mercer was floored with a headshot as a professional fighter and then stopped as a Professional fighter.

He would. Thats what brain damage does to you. And still he beat Ruiz.:atu::atu:

It also was the first time Mercer was stopped, after reaching 40 years of age.

  27. dymipepel

    dymipepel Im Banned

He would, because he actually knocked down Mercer.
And Holyfield lost to Ruiz. 3 times. In a row.
Kinda like Wlad lost to Purrity. Except he managed to last the distance with "The Quiet man".

Yes, I knew we would win you over!:cheer:

    dymipepel Im Banned

Yes, there's no need to remind one that you believe that Wlad's victory over 41-years old Mercer is a significant achievement.
It also shows how, for example, Larry Holmes, who (being 46 years old himself), beat 28 years old Mercer, and, basically, with a single fight shitted all over Wladimira's resume.

I swear he was 40, I'll take your word though. I just remember watching the fight and thought I remember his age brought up. Going strictly off my memory, so take that what its worth.
