Pulls outta the Shane to fight to fight....... Paulie! Yeah, thats right. Fuckin Malignaggi! Paulie has no chance. He'll be undersized, cant utilize his speed cause Berto is faster, and doesnt have any power to dent Berto's paper chin. Makes me think that the disaster in Hati was the PERFECT excuse for the Berto ppl to pull thier fraud out of what woulda been a KO loss.

How long will this hype machine keep being protected for?

with Mosley fighting Mayweather and Clottey fightin Pacman, who exactly is he supposed to be fighting? Not many options out there.
I do agree Paulie is not the best choice though.

Same promoter. Easiest fight for them to make.

Still, I can definitely see paulie win this one. I'm not high on berto at all.

i dunno if berto really didnt want to fight because of the quake in haiti, or if this was an executive decision by HBO, the haymon boxing organization.

I'll cut him some slack because of the Haiti thing. Paulie is not exactly a bum.

Paulie doesnt have a shot in hell. The only real question is whether or not Paulie will last the distance. I think he prob will, but I cant see him winning any rounds.

Paulie isnt a bum, but he's not a welterweight, and make no mistake... he's been selected cause he cant break an egg.

Hell I woulda accepted Judah as a better opponent than Paulie. At least Zab would be able to test Berto's chin.

Dibella is milking his pet fraud for all he's worth.

DiBella is the biggest fraud maker out there. I think Berto was promised a shot at the winner of PBF/Mosley if he agreed to pull out of the Mosley fight.

Are you out of your freaking mind, Double?
There's no way in hell Berto doesn't realize PBF will never fight him.
    Think about it.
After his victory over Mosley, PBF will have fought 4 P4P fighters in a row. There's no way PBF will stoop down to the level of bums like Berto, Margarito, etc, after having fought so many of the very best fighters in the world.

Xplosive I don't agree with this..

Haiti disaster left a death toll of over 200,000. Country is in ruins. He lost family members. I wouldn't call it an excuse.

He's a fighter and now has to get back in the action as life must move on...but Jan 31st was too close to the tragedy. Have a heart homie.

I've always wanted to see Berto fight Cintron.

However due to Berto's size I really wish he was campaigning at 140 where there would be less need to protect him and he'd actually have a shot at defeating some of the top guys there instead of being given no chance against the elite at welter.

Imagine discussing fights for Berto against the likes of Madiana, Ortiz, Alexander, and Bradley where the outcome is a bit more balanced. Instead we get to watch and discuss him feasting on safe fights some of which are already coming from the 140 division.

Totally agree. He is far more suited to 140. Berto against the top guys at 140 are closer to pick em fights, but I think (and seemingly most others here) Berto would be crushed by the top dogs at welterweight.

Berto would have fought Shane Mosley had the earthquake not happened so I really wouldn't fault him for being protected. It's not like it's his fault that fight didn't happen.

However, he should be fighting someone in his own damn division. What the hell is with boxers these days? Always trying to pick on "name" guys from lower weight classes. That shit is really annoying.

Disaster? Ruins? Dude, have you been to Haiti BEFORE the earthquake? I've been a couple of times and let me tell you, that shithole of a country has ALWAYS been in ruins. Ever since the French left, and left natives to their own devices, Haiti has been nothing, but a cesspool of poverty, stupidity, laziness, and inability of the natives to use their brains for anything creative.
A single ride through Port-au-Prince would've told you everything you needed to know about the country: people bumming around on the streets, selling drugs, hip-hop blasting through the open windows, single mothers popping out a new stupid kid every year or so.....I spoke a couple of times with locals and phrases like "I understand radiation...It's the reason why it gets colder, the higher one gets in altitude" would seem the height of scientific thinking, comparing to what the locals would say to you.
An average urban ghetto looks outright civilized compared to Haiti. Hell, even Africa, another place where natives' stupidity always leads them to disaster after disaster and self-destruction, looks "normal" compared to the shithole, that's Haiti.
No matter how much money is being spend on Haiti, it won't make one iota of difference. It will remain, as it's always been since French had departed, a cesspool of "humanity" (if you can call it that).
The only hope for Haiti and its inhabitants is that earthquake kills some of them, and then diseases and crime can take care of the rest of them, so that the tropical paradise can be populated with normal people, who can actually make a decent living on one of the most hospitable islands in the world (shouldn't be too difficult for anyone with half a brain).

Malignaggi? at 147? SHIT..if Malignaggi wasn't able to handle Hatton at 140 he has NO SHOT at Berto...NONE....ZERO....

Alfonso Gomez would have been a better opponent for Berto..IMO..

and what about Judah or the Rematch w/ Collazo?

Berto has never look spectacular...never. But Malignaggi is undersized, slower, powerless, defensive less, etc..etc..He will give Berto rounds and thats about it...

I actually only went once, the other time was a cruise ship stop-over.
There's only one solution for Haiti: a series of earthquakes, completely wiping out the population, and re-population of island with normal people.
Instead, we see Barry Hussein flying those retards to the US and providing them with free healthcare, courtesy of US taxpayers.
Why I should pay for that shit, is beyond me.

I guess this totally negates the fact that Berto has dead family and a homeless sister. Case closed!!!

They're dead? Really? Excellent, so they won't be brought here at taxpayers' expense, fed at taxpayers' expense, clothed at taxpayers' expense and medically treated at taxpayers' expense?

    Can he make 140?

He has that stocky frame, sort like Meldrick Taylor (who had problems making 140) but stockier. Berto started his career heavier but worked his way down to WW, I don't know if he can get any lower.

You know....having lived most of my life in England I am in a position to say this:

    YOU ARE A RACIST!

I've been watching your posts for a few years now and you always take opportunities to imply that blacks are inferior.

The only reason you haven't been banned for life is because you're very clever and subtle with it. But make no mistake you're a racist fuck.

I get what X is saying and agree to a point. I jump off at the "using Haiti as an excuse" but he makes a valid point regarding this being a bitch move.

Earlier, someone asked what other fights are out there for Berto...

I have an idea...you know how HBO selected his bout with Luis Collazo as one of 2009's "best" fights...why not make that rematch?

Collazo is #2 in the WBC (Mayweather is ranked #1)...malignaggi isn't ranked at welterweight.

Isn't that a more noteworthy fight than a fight with Malignaggi? A guy who spent a career at 140 with FIVE career KO's?

    I hear you.

Berto SHOULD fight someone better now. However, as you seem to agree, his not fighting Mosley on jan 31st was justified in the light of the recent events in haiti.

I have no issue with him skipping out on the Mosley date. Justified and understandable.

Coming back against Malignaggi is not understandable or justifiable.

Which was the main point of the thread. Like I said... even ole Zab would be a more justified opponent than Paulie. At least Judah has the handspeed, and power to have tested Berto's chin. Paulie was chosed specifically because he punches like a 10 yr old.

Collazo shoulda been the logical choice though, like you said.
