This thread was done after Pac-Cotto. This is what I wrote then and it still is my pick Superior power wouldn't help Tito since he would not catch Manny. In toe to toe combat Tito was awesome but his footwork was poor and Manny's movement and quick harpoon attacks wouldn't give him a chance to set up. Manny clearly
Pac with yawning ease. Would be like watching a downy girl with both feet tied together trying to dance tango with El Cachafaz.
Tito by KO. Felix was miles better than Cotto, and Clottey, and both those guys were able to land on Pac. When Tito lands however, Pac wouldnnt handle it so well.
Tito was miles better than Cotto? Based on what, though? His 4 best wins at welter were Campas, old Camacho, Carr & a shot coke addicted Whitaker. You really think Cotto would have struggled with any of them? If Tito's better than Cotto is surely isn't by 'miles'.
Good point X. I also want to add a prime Tito had faster hands then Cotto. I think Pac wont be willing to engage with a monster puncher like Tito like he did with Cotto and Clottey.
Tito WAS miles better than Cotto,.....MILES. But that's not the point. he simply couldn't beat pacquiao because of Pac's movement and speed. Pac would drop Tito some 6 times in this fight.
Cotto would have been knocked out in three rounds. Cool Cold. Done. But Pacquiao's style would have befuddled Tito, no doubt.
Since I regard Cotto at welter as about as good as Vargasat 154 who Tito squeeked by then I would make Tito a close but clear favourite. But Tito wasn't 'miles' better than Vargas, nor is he miles better than Cotto. What he is is 'miles' slower of foot than Manny Pacquiao.
Cotto was always very vulnerable. Tito got dropped a few times but he wasn't as vulnerable. he was usually the victiim of FLASH KDs but only in the Hopkins fight was Tito BADLY hurt. Trinidad was a better offensive fighter than Cotto, and had more power FO SHO. Cotto would have been slaughtered by tito. It wouldn't have been pretty. That said...like i said...Tito couldn't have beaten the Pacquiao we are seeing at the moment. no way no how. Tito too stationary and not adaptable enough to deal with that speed and movement. The straight left would drop Tito a few times.
I think so too. That is why Manny would use his great lateral movement and accuracy to pick Tito apart
One thing is for sure Pacman would be tested like never before. Tito will not backup here like most of Pac's previous opponents. Tito will march forward until the fight is over :)
That's the way I see it. I see Pac fighting an extremely cautious, measured fight and only engaging when he stings Tito enough to capitalize on openings. Tito would be spinning around, get outta his way, and he'd be feeling Pac cause he likes it like this. Pac 11-1 on the score cards.
Since when has Manny shown to be a master boxer? He has never shown this attribute. He has always shown the willingness to engage and thats when he gets KTFO.::
I don't think he's ever felt a need to in any other fight. But Roach isn't stupid enough to let him go in and brawl with a guy he feels Manny would lose to in a firefight. He would go in with a strategy and he has more than enough speed, talent & versatility to pull it off versus a known non-A class fighter like Tito.
:: The sentence started 'Tito would be spinning' and the rest really wrote itself. *takes a bow*. Plus it gives us all occasion to remember this:
Pacquiao. Roach's glasses would be fogged over at the sight of his boy completely out of it on the ringmat.
not sure who wins trinidad vs. pac, but the better debate would be, who would win pac vs. oscar in his prime? oscar wouldn't have beaten clottey the way pacquiao did for sure. i think pacquiao's a legit 147 pounder and provides tough challenge for a lot of past good and great welters of the past.
For an otherwise sensible individual you sure do seem to overrate the dickens out of Felix 'two left feet' Trinidad, Ramonza.
perhaps. but pac's demolition of oscar was so thorough that a prime de la hoya vs. pac is a discussion not related to what actually happened when the two fought. that and de la hoya has never looked impressive when fighting a great fighter who was in his prime. p4p, weight per weight, it doesn't matter. at their best, pacquiao is the much superior fighter. oscar in his prime was an excellent hitter, and maybe at welterweight he might have been the heavier handed guy, but skill-wise, he was never as good as pacquiao.
trinidad had a long run at welterweight, but the first time he fought an elite fighter, he looked like shit. aside from his powerful jab, it's not like de la hoya holds any edge over pacquiao. these days, i don't even consider pacquiao a former featherweight or lightweight. in fact, he's improved vastly since he moved up in weight and has proven to have great reflexes, chin, and power at 147. imagine what pac would've done to an unbeaten yori boy campas.
