We know of examples where fighters do alot of talking before the fight and then the other guy beats them down once they get in the ring. Vargas - De la Hoya Mayorga - De La Hoya Holmes - Tyson Creed - Drago :: But what about the times where fighters did all the bragging and boasting in the build up, belittling their opponent and the opponent said very little and then guess what...they STILL beat down the silent opponent and made good their boasts. They did all the talking AND they did all teh fighting. they OWNED the opponent in and out of the ring. Examples: Hopkins - Tito Mayweather - Corrales Clay - Liston
Joe Calzaghe vs Jeff Lacy Jeff got quieter and quieter as the fight drew near and his words seemed forced. Calzaghe on the other hand never gave up talking.
But Kelley was competitive, Hamed/Robinson would probably be a better example, he talked mad shit prior to that one
good one. He acted like robinson was a no good, amateur that didn't deserve to be in the same ring as him and then when they fought...he proved to be right.
Mayorga-Forrest. I'm not sure about Mayweather-Corrales. Corrales did his share of trash-talking too, talking about how he'd "kill Floyd".
Lucky Frank Warren threatenned the timid Italian,.. otherwise that fight probably would have gone the Glencoffe Johnson route. A real pity Calzaghe didn't have much faith in his abilities until very, very late in his career.
The rematch was close,.. which fight are you talking about?.. The first one?.. I thought Mayorga was considered just a hand-picked scrub.. that went badly wrong,... didn't know there was plenty of pre-fight hoopla,..
Don't you remember Joe rang up Warren crying.. "I'm injured I can't fight him!" ...and Warren replied,... mate, if you cancel this again,.. you'll never get another oppurtunity,.. and that still didn't deterr Calzaghe's plea to "stop the fight, stop the fight!" said in the same manner that Ali said it against Liston,.. it took his daddy screaming in his ear that he was a "cowardly fucken chicken" in collaboration with Warren, to force him in there... once there, he learned that he could ride a bike without training wheels...but still,.. not the best example Sir Cloverfield :nono:.
Yup "I'm going to embarrass you in front of your fans. It's going to be a mismatch. You don't belong in the same ring as me....etc..." It turned out to be even worse than what Mayweather had predicted. Gatti was close to death in that one...
