nobody is disputing his dominance. problem is most of the time, if not all an opponent will find themselves constantly on their backs and when they are there GSP puts on his smothering game.

now i know he does this to nullify their strengths, but lets be brutally honest, he does it so he doesn't have to take any chances. total safety first approach and what's more its boring.

most great fighters of their time took chances, GSP never does. never.

in fact the serra fight ruined any excitement he might bring.

i understand what jesus of montreal meant when he called him the wlad klitschko of mma.

Agreed, I knew people who were in the camp of GSP and who sparred with him. They say that it's chin is horrendous, and it's not unusual to see him do the drunk dance after getting hit by unimpressive shot. It's sad cause before ,he was an exciting fighter.

Right, grapplers grapple because they don't want to take chances. This isn't kickboxing, wrestling and grappling are a huge part of the game. You may want to migrate back to the boxing board, and bitch about the Klitschkos. Seems like your attention spans may be best off for the WWE.

I'm not at all upset. For some reason I thought all the people on here were actual fans of MMA, and not just casuals that want to watch a Tank Abbott or Kimbo Slice fight.

    Enough of that anyway...

exactly, as I said after the Alves fight, he's the Wlad of MMA. Sure he may get the stoppage, but he's so safety first and obvious it makes most of his fights boring as hell.

    Wow, couldn't disagree more.
The Alves fight was pure garbage, one sided and pedestrian. The Fitch fight was very good, GSP reverted to his old style because he knows Fitch lack of standup skills.

gsp should seriously consider moving up to middleweight after this.

who else left there to fight really? paulo thiago? fitch or koschek in a rematch?

i'd like to see bj penn move up to welterweight and fight for a vacant title. the success of that transition is more foreseable than gsp's potential success at middleweight.

how would gps do against someone like sonnen?

Yup ,theres no one in the ww division that can be viewed as a fight that would give gsp a challenge, i mean it would be retreads galore after hardy. I fear that gsp is becoming the LH version of roy , the circumstances is becoming thesame as well ( lack of any challenge in the div. Etc.)

He meant to say it's his chin, not it's chin. Keep in mind that English is Azazel's second language, and he might have been typing the post fast.

GSP is an excellent tactical fighter. Sometimes that translates to less-than-thrilling bouts, but this is a world champ in MMA...not a tough man competitor.

Seems to me, the guys who believe GSP is boring are the same guys who want to see a slugfest everytime. I seriously find it crazy to think taking Penn down and dominating him on the mat is safety first. Penn is one of the best BJJ practitioners on the planet. Why would GSP stand and fight a kickboxing match with Alves, a world class kickboxer??? These are the same guys who criticized Frank Shamrock for fighting Cung Le's fight and getting his ass kicked in the process. I love watching GSP fight. Pure dominance.

REED is right. Kimbo STILL waxes Tank Abbot. Kimbo/Tank 2 anyone???:hammert:

whatever clown. I like the ground game as much as anyone, but smothering someone on the ground and making next to no attempt to improve position (when was the last time that GSP got the mount) or subbing is boring to me.

It's funny how GSP little fans needs to denigrate people who find him boring.

exactly. nog is probably my favourite fighter that I've watched in pride/mma and he is hardly a stand up guy. his ground work was a thing of beauty.

and look at george stepipoholis or whatever the hell his name is (sorry australians) in his last fight constantly working for submissions.

gsp is good at getting people to the ground and then holding them there and that equates to zzzzzzzzzzz's.

Amazing how battered BJ and Alves looked after ONLY being HELD on the ground by GSP..

Didn't he basically make Serra give up due to knees to the body?

Sure GSP isn't always looking for submissions, but the dude is inflicting damage on the ground. Again, ask BJ Penn about that one.

Regardless, I am looking forward to watching his boring yet completely dominant Canadian ass in the cage this weekend.

Exactly, JOM gets all butthurt because I don't agree with him. I love submissions. But just because you don't go for submissions doesn't mean you don't have great ground skills. Two totally different styles. Jon Jones fights fairly the same in style. It may not be your cup of tea, but too say he is just holding someone down is well.....stupid. There is a huge difference between GSP's ground game and some who is a "lay and pray" fighter like Gray Maynard for instance.

Ground and Pound - GSP, Jon Jones, Cain Valasquez, Shane Carwin, Brock Lesnar, Matt Hughes, Josh Koscheck(sorta, hes becoming more of a kickboxer these days, although he did use his grappling last time out) etc...

Lay and Pray- Gray Maynard, Jon Fitch, Clay Guida, Frankie Edgar...etc

I would agree with this except maybe Frankie Edgar. I always thought he pushed the pace and didn't just lay and pray. But wouldn't really argue it either way.

Clay Guida is the definition of lay and pray. He's only exciting if he's in with someone who he dominates, any resistance and he's a fucking octopus!

Disagree. The only time he is exciting is when he's getting his ass kicked a la Guida vs Sanchez.
