Yeah Quintana is a good fighter with lots of skills. He doesn't react to great to getting hurt though and it seems like once you hurt him he folds. I think the great fight Berto had with another Boriqua southpaw Callazo will have him ready to take a hard fought decision. Quintana is live though. If I was Berto I'd focus on the body like Cotto did.
It's a good competitive fight. Obviously this isn't a hugely important fight as far as the division goes though. It's a good test for Berto. I think Quintana is at least as good as Collazo and Collazo gave Berto all he could handle. Quitana did beat Paul Wiliams too who is way better than Berto. Berto losing would not surprise me one bit.
Dude...when people are gathering on internet fora to ask which of the current crop of used-to-be cheats, junkies and fly/featherweights is currently the Welterweight Champion, you know you have a problem. Throw in perhaps the most undeserving WBC champ of recent memory, and the continued and increasingly bitter feuding between Mayweather/Pacquaio and it gets worse. How many of the current welterweight elite even started their life in that division??? Compare the current situation to that of 10 short years ago...and maybe, just maybe, you will see where I am coming from. The situation at 147 is fraught. Nobody wants to take command, the main players are too busy saying "My PPV is bigger than yours"...etc. Berto, right...WBC Welterweight Champion...can barely get past Collazo. Shane Mosley, reformed cheat, has barely 2, 3 defences of the title under his belt anyways from his first go around. Floyd Mayweather, best Welterweight? Fought a guy who had never tested 140 never mind 147 the full 12 rounds in his last bout...all kinds of money changing hands to allow Floyd Castillo-esque advantages. Margarito...maybe ruined Miguel Cotto, illegally. Cotto...finished...illegally by Cotto, with your best friend finishing the leftovers. Clottey...serial choker. There is plenty to be disappointed with.
Berto should win....because Quintana has not fought at 147 in a while and hasn't being in the ring much since losing to Williams.... A Quintana of a few years ago it would have been a pick 'em..but i haven't seen much of him in a while so i don't know how he is looking. If it's the same Quintana of the Cotto, Williams, Julio fights...then Berto is in trouble...
agREED, plus berto will have the extra incentive of fighting for his family lost and those in haiti. phonetap expects an impressive performance...
Me too. I used to like Berto but he's a fraud who seems to not believe in himself and is therefore allowing himself to be used rather...fraudulently. For instance his refusal to rematch Collazo who arguably won their fight, his negative clinching and scary style against an ordinary Urango, and his wiggling out of the Mosley fight. The guy doesn't behave like a champion at all and is a big reason why the belts don't mean shit. Correct me if I'm wrong but Berto hasn't been in the ring for just as long if not longer than Quintana.
Berto Should win. I haven't seen Quintana in a long time so I don't know how he's looking. If the Quintana that fought Williams the first time shows up then Berto is in trouble.
Quintana was Quintana that night. He didn't fight in any special manner. Williams looked flat as shit and Quintana outboxed him. Regardless of if the same Quintana that fought Williams shows up he can lose. Berto's handspeed is going to be a big issue for Quintana.
Agreed. This is the fastest fighter Quintana has ever faced. Speed kills so we will have to see how Quintana adjusts.
Yep, Quintana is just bad enough to get beat off of talent alone, which really is all Berto will ever bring to the table.
