I give the nod to Chavez-Taylor but this is damn close to it. Arguello-Oliveras is among the best fights ever too

    I'd consider Corrales-Castillo 1 to be better.

There are so many great fights that I find it pretty much impossible to point out one that indisputably stands above the others. All of the fights mentioned so far are worthy of being considered for the best ever. And it's good to see someone mention Gomez-Pintor, which is an underrated great fight.

My top fight would be Corrales-Castillo 1, followed by Ali-Frazier 3. Third would be either Saad-M. Johnson 1 or Moore-Durelle 1.

    Damn, Pryor-Arguello 1, Chacon-Limon 4, and Gomez-Pintor all took place within a month period in 1982.

One of them to be sure, and I was privileged to watch that fight on HBO live in the early cable days on a Friday night.

Life didn't get much better than that for a boxing fan, bro.

Ironically, Ray Mancini beat Duk Koo Kim to death at Caesar's Palace the next afternoon, and that fight got all of the headlines and the cover of Sports Illustrated, not Pryor-Arguello.

Mancini-Kim was a tough fight and a very brutal affair, but nothing like the night before.

    No.

Too many allegations of substance abuse that simply cannot be shaken thanks to Panama Lewis being subsequently implicated in the Billy Collins affair.

REED Would Add Carbajal-Gonzalez I to the List of those that he'd Rate as SLIGHTLY Better than Pryor-Arguello I...REED Watches Pryor-Arguello I @ Least TWICE Per Year Though....

Considering the QUALITY as well as the brutality, I still regard Pryor-Arguello I as the greatest fight ever, 'fo sho!'.

I'm not really sure what I'd choose as the greatest fight of the 80s and 90s. The 80s had all those excellent fights from 1982 that I listed earlier, plus others like Chacon-Edwards 2 and Saad-Lopez 2. The 90s had Carbajal-Gonzalez 1, Chavez-Taylor 1, Robinson-Gatti 1, Barrera-Mckinney, etc....

it was a brilliant fight for sure, one of the classics... especially considering that both men were among boxings best at that time
