The sense it makes is because we haven't seen him for 16 months, as of now Shane's shotness is a '?' and with it the significance and relevance of the win for Floyd. The Shane that fought Margirito might arguably be the best win on Floyd's resume and a big boon to his historical standing. A win over a Shane so shop worn that he would be stopped by Floyd, who is a known non-KO artist, after a career of being superbly durable means the win would become very devalued in perople's perceptions.

That's my reasoning. But as you say, a KO win would help his popularity in the short term WAY more.

Yo Sly, send me some of that stuff you're smoking, must be some good soon to be made legal shit. Mosley stopped...

Now to the whole forum: WHY the fuck have TESTING beyond what the commission requires if it's not going to be made PUBLIC??:dunno:
How are we going to know whether testing was done at all?

    Fair point.

But IMO there's no way Floyd stops Shane for the very same reason that I don't think a fighter goes from one of his absolute best wins and performances to being shot as to get stopped by a frail handed former Superfeatherweight.

This type of thinking means that IF Floyd does stop Shane...you'd agree that it was an impressive result.

you seem to believe a mayweather jr victory will justify your years and disparaging Mosley, slydaft.

Shane is not as good as he once was. My justification came when Forrest dominated a PRIME Mosley almost 10 years ago. I don't need anything else.

Shane is, what I always said, a very good fighter that is NOT a master boxer. That's not what I would call "disparaging". Everyone else at the time use to merely OVERRATE him and call him the second coming of Ray Robinson, "perfect fighter" and other nonsense.

It's embarrassing in retrospect how much we all overrated Shane & Tito. Both were very good champions, nothing more. I can give myself a bit of a bye since I was only about 16, but the rest of you were all idiots.

Not necessarily - he's saying he doesn't think Shane WILL have declined so much in 15 months. But if Floyd gets a stoppage, barring extraordinary stoppages it will still mean he has, IMO.

That is a self serving way of reasoning on your part though. it means that Floyd doesn't get credit for anything in this fight. If he struggles..he would have lost to a prime Shane, if he dominates...this means Shane is shot.

So Floyd beating up Shane wont mean that Floyd is better than manythought it'll simply mean that Shane has suddenly become shot.

    Ridiculous...with all due respect.

 With all due respect right honourable Sly, not necessarily. If Floyd largely dominates but Shane's chin, reflex', speed, balance and general indicators of shotness hold up OK he'll get credit for a solid win. But the risks of them NOT holding up, Shane turning out to be or appear shot and so your win being meaningless are just the risks you take on when you fight guys pushing 39 who haven't fought in well over a year.

No. He sews doubt about his standing by avoiding the best fighters in his division. Facing Mosley is a good first step, but even a victory over him will not remove from memory what could've been - fights with Clottey, Margarito, Cotto, Quintana, Williams, and of course, Pacquiao.

PBF has a steep road ahead of him if he intends on proving he's as good as people like you think he is (which he and I both know is not the case).

Plus, one day PBF will have to pay the piper when it comes to his PED use. Like McGuire, he will cry his eyes out when at a press conference he finds himself with no choice but to own up to his actions. And given the charade he calls a crusade against PEDs, it will be quite a sight to see.

There is no way Mayweather is going to stop Mosley. Even if PBF managed to hurt Shane, which would surprise me a bit, Shane is more than capable of evading or clinching in order to recover. And Floyd is not a shark in there at any stage of the fight, no matter how much chance he has of getting a KO. He is not going to chase a hurt Shane around the ring when he's ahead on the cards late in the fight. That is almost crazy talk.

Further, PBF could not stop a hurt Zab Judah, a semi-hurt and way out of his prime (career and division wise) JMM, or even Carlos Baldomir. I'd throw in Oscar, but at least Oscar is know for having something of a chin. If PBF can't even close the show against a shot, hurt, chinless fighter like Zab, where there was even a lot of bad blood between them.... how will he do it against Shane?

It would indeed require an internal change in PBF's outlook and his fighting style. He would need to take more chances and be significantly more aggressive than per usual. And as someone who dislikes Floyd quite a bit, even I would have to ask... what for? What impetus could Floyd possibly have to take more risks in order to get a TKO11 as opposed to the usual UD12? I see no financial advantage, and Floyd has made it abundantly clear that he prioritizes legacy about as much as Tiger Woods prioritizes fidelity. The biggest potential for huge $$$ on Floyd's radar (fight with Pac) is in no way even mildly affected by a late TKO as opposed to a clear decision over Shane. Only a loss hurts that fight, thus giving Floyd yet MORE incentive to make sure he conservatively avoids a loss.

I daresay that even a shot Mosley probably survives 12 with PBF right now. Thus my prediction, a typical, safe UD12 for Floyd in a fight where Mosley has some success winging bombs here and there at Floyd, but ultimately gets outworked and outslicked. I will be rooting heavily for Shane despite its futility.

    Nice.

And this is reasonable logic. So IF it happens, it has to be perceived as impressive by Floyd and that he has to this point been misjudged in terms of his ability to stop fighters when he wants to.

    Floyd by UD

it will sort of be like the DLH fight in that there will be no doubt after the fight that a prime Mosley would have easily won

If Mayweather wins by decision or scores a late TKO, it's still against a 39 year old fighter who hasn't fought in over a year. Let's not spin this fight into anything more than it actually is...a fight that should have happened years ago.

This wouldn't even be a consideration if Mayweather didn't wait until Mosley was this old before making the fight.

Sorry but Mosley was the one to turn off the fight before and to be honest, had the fight been made 2 years ago it still would've been another 2 years too late according to people with bias against Floyd and you know that. Mosley is old but is coming from one of the best performances in his career and Floyd ain't no spring chicken either, he's 33 and has fought 1 time in the last 3 years.

I remember most guys here saying Floyd would never fight Mosley after Shane destroyed Margarito last year. Fight happens and look at the reaction, can't say I'm surprised though.

If Floyd wins it's a very good win, the best win anyone can get at 147 this side of Mayweather and Pacquiao. If it leads to a Mayweather-Pacquiao super fight it means even more.

All in all it's a good fight. Let's not make it more or less than what it is.

I've never thought much of Margarito, and even less than that when he was caught trying to load his gloves. And in the fight prior to that, Mosley hardly looked like a world beater against the washed-up Mayorga.

It's not a totally meaningless fight, but calling it "a very good win " for Mayweather is definitely a stretch.

It depends on the manner of the victory,.. if he pot shots Shane and sprints around the perimetre, being American he wont have sportswriters keeling over dieng and indulging in a nostalgic fantasy of yesteryear, while advocating his assassination. But it will be somewhat infuriating at the time, he's likely to employ illegal in-ring tactics to help him,.. but atleast we are guaranteed as much as possible that he and Mosely are fucken CLEAN.

I can't see how Fraud cannot be given any credit for a victory over Mosely, the fact is this is the best possible opponent for Mayweather to face based on Shane's recent form,.. he has to get credit for a win,.. the manner inwhich he wins has got to be factored in, but he should get credit, fuck this 'he was old' groupie-excuse these fighters always have on standby, 'just incase' ..well he was old when he flogged Collazo and he was old when he murdered Margarito too.
