You go too far. What it will show if Floyd stops Shane is that Floyd is capable of stopping Shane. There is no need to retroactively re-visit previous fights and somehow reason that Floyd could have stopped Jose Luis Castillo if he just wanted too.

So let's just stick with the first part of your "IF" - yes, if Floyd stops Shane it will be impressive. Of course it would have been much more impressive had Floyd beat Shane before he was almost 40. But it's too late for that, so you take what you can get. And I think boxing fans are being unfair if they don't admit that a KO/TKO over Shane at this point would still be somewhat impressive for Floyd.

It will be a shame if Mosley looks like Hopkins or Jones jr on May 1st. The old saying is age is nothing but a number. The mentality of the person has a lot to do with it. Mosley waited a long time for this type of fight. Mentally, Mosley shouldn't show his age.

As far as TESTING, I hope they are waiting for the 24-7 show to DIVULGE the results. Again what would be the PURPOSE of the extra testing if the results are not made public.

What signal would it send to a possible Pacquaio megafight if they say: "Huh yes, testing is being done. Can't tell you the results. Move along, nothing to see here."

I'm not sure "recent form" applies when Mosley's last fight will be 16 months ago when this fight happens.

 

I dont think that is reason enough for Fraud to cancel the fight and search for a stronger opponent though, I can't think of who he should fight if it isn't Shane, he's got to get credit if he wins,..how he wins though, is important too.

 

I was thinking the same thing.

Mosley is a great fighter, but his brilliant performance against Plasterito shouldn't be taken at face value for 2 reasons.

First of all, Plasterito looked like an utter bum without his magic handrwaps, and two - at this sort of age, pushing 40, the old axiom of turning old overnight is certainly true.

Having not fought for almost a year and a half, pushing 40, Mosley might get in the ring and actually look his age, especially against someone as sharp as Floyd who could expose that, not a bum standing in front of him taking punches.

I'm picking Floyd by decision, 8-4 or 9-3. How much trouble Mosley gives him really depends on how shot he is, or rather, how not shot he is.

 

It's unfortunate that so few people are picking Shane to win. Makes it a boring debate.

Floyd couldn't have fought Shane any sooner really. He could have chosen Shane instead of Marquez....but Shane would have only been less than a year younger in that fight and so it was have been the same thing.

When Floyd moved up to Welterweight Shane was at Jnr Middle fighting Vargas and when shane decided to come back down to Welterweight he wasn't ready to take on Floyd just yet, by his own admission....plus Floyd was fighting Oscar for the big bucks and another title in another division. Shane signed to fight Cotto while Floyd took on Hatton.

Floyd took some time off and we are where we are at today. Neither fighter was ducking the other....Floyd wasn't waiting for Shane to get old and all that nonsense...circumstances were such that the fight wasn't completely attainable until now. Someone could argue that Floyd should have Fought Shane instead of Hatton...but at the time Hatton was as big a fight..as Hatton was undefeated, had stopped Tszyu and Castillo and had been calling out Floyd.


Anyway.....

Shane is still a good opponent for Floyd and a fighter is as good as his last performance...and so we have to base Shane of his performance against Margarito. If Floyd hadn't signed to fight Shane the naysayers would be saying that he's scared of a challenge because Shane is still good, proven by the fact that he destroyed Margarito in his last fight. Floyd signs to fight Shane and suddenly Shane may be shot etc...and Floyd is only picking on him because he's an old man.
