So, we get to see two of our top 5 P4P fighters in action this weekend. Who you guys got? I think Silva should beat Maia standing. However, if Maia does manage to get Silva to the ground things could get really interesting. On the ground, it would turn into a competitive fight. The Marquardt fight may have humbled Maia a bit and make him realize he needs to get it to the ground asap. I don't think it will happen though. Silva will be too much for him standing and will be ready to avoid Maias ground game. I am really excited about Penn/Edgar. As hood as Penns standup is, don't sleep on Frankie. He has some great striking. However, Penns striking is just as good and he also has many other tools in his arsenal. I think Penn will show how well rounded he is and overwhelm Frankie. Hughes/Gracie....5 years too late. I'll watch it, but don't really care who wins.
I give Maia a better shot at beating Silva, than i do at Edgar beating Penn, but i give Edgar a better chance of being competitive. If it Edgar is going to win, it will have to be sustained successes...i don't see him KOing or subbing Penn, and i don't see him outpointing him...however he might be able to do enough to hang with Penn for a while. Whereas....Maia could not get a sniff at Silva for several minutes, but with his BJJ ability, he has the potential to take advantage of one mistake, and end the fight just moments later. I don't think he will....Silva won't let Maia close to him, and when Maia goes for it he's likely to eat some fists or knees on the way in....BUT, if and when he gets that take down it's GAME ON. Gracie is 43 and hasn't fought since 07. Whilst Hughes is past-it, he should have way too much.
Penn has some of the best stand up in MMA. He should be able to stuff most if not all of Edgar's shots. I am thinking a tad sooner with the tko, round 3 for Penn. Silva will be extremely cautious about letting this get to the mat. Without something crazy coming out of Meia like a flying armbar or a legsweep to a heel hook, Silva should end this on their feet by round 2. I have no idea why Renzo Gracie and Matt Hughes are even on this card.
we haven't seen too much of penn's ground game as of late. that says a lot about his stand-up game. edgar's good from what i've seen, but none of his wins in the ufc were truly eye opening for me. i take penn via late TKO or UD. maia is boring. hopefully, silva will clock this guy early.
Edgar is a lamb for slaughter this evening. UFC are running out of opponents for BJ. I just hope Penn isnt looking past Frankie. Silva V Mia is going to be interesting, bring it on :hammert:
I think it's a pretty bad card, the only good fights are the the co-mainevent and in both, the underdogs should be way overmatched. I give a decent chance to Edgar but would be shocked if no chin Maia wins
Muniz is a true ground and pound artist. A Sherdog writer picked him to lose, citing overrated wrestling and mediocre top control. I think he could control opponents better if he wanted to, but that's not his style, he wants to take his opponents head off.
Bob, you're a knob - why didn't you say it started much, much earlier due to being in a towelhead country? I'm glad Grove lost mainly because his nickname is "Da Spyder".
Poor Gustaffson, dude is a destroyer and is young and improving, I hate the UFC for making this matchup.
I don't like the Gracies and their style, but I can't fucking stand the stupid jock Hughes, so I'm rooting for Gracie. No idea who'll win though.
The crowd has been great so far and Im suprise they aren't booing more. It's more than justified, this makes a Jon Fitch fight look like Frye vs the blod Japanese guy.
the link I sent you does not work? The best thing to do is download sopcast and watch it on mmatv. But noone seems to listen to me when I say that.
