I watched it again, and even though his eyes didn't look gone, and he was watching the ref, I think he was pretty much KO'd.

Spinks almost leaned into a hard right hand by Mike, right on the button. The force of the punch alone sent Spinks flying back, then his head literally bounced on the canvas.

That kind of head bounce only happens if you've actually lost control of your body, ie you're more or less KO'd - otherwise you'd instinctively use your neck muscles to stop your head bouncing on the canvas. That alone makes me think it was legit.

Very different to purposefully and carefully rolling onto the canvas, like Dirrell

And actually, if you look in slow motion, right when his head bounces on the canvas, his eyes DO look gone. He then recovers and tried to get up. Maybe he could have tried harder, maybe not.

Like I said in my previous post, it's OBVIOUS Spinks didn't fancy it against Mike, before the fight etc, but when the fight actually started Spinks started to look slightly more relaxed, and actually threw punches, probably thought "Oh well, I'm here now, might as well try and fight".

I think he was just outgunned and KO'd to be honest, whether he was shitting himself or not.

agREED. It didn't matter whether Spinks was pissing his pants in fear or had just received the Badge of Courage Medallion from the Wizard of OZ on his way to the ring, he simply no match for Tyson.

I think it's spinks and it's not even that close.

People underate his wins over holmes, and he beat up cooney something fierce. Not to mention that he had one of the best resume at 175.

As for the Tyson loss, I think that Hagler loss against Leonard is much more devastating for his legacy, as he lost to a smaller guy, who was coming off retirement. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Hagler had kind of a fetish on Leonard, and was very motivated for the fight, contrarly to Spinks who was almost retired when he fought Tyson.

Wow lay off the crack. Spinks would do a number on Hagler, especially with the uppercuts, wich he was very good at. not to mention that he could outjab marvin, since he was a lot taller and leaner

Can't think of a natural Middle who I would favour over Spinks, sans perhaps Greb, let alone one who never fought about the 160lb. juncture.

Have you've seen Greb shadowboxes. He looks like he has 2 left foot. Terrible terrible technique. I know he has a hell of a resume, but in those time, it was mainly a white boys club, because of that the competition wasn't nearly as depth as it was afterwards, so it has to count against him. If i'm not mistaken, Tiger flower was the only negro he fiught against, and whe know what happened

Sure. He just doesn't do it in 90 seconds or less. And Hagler is game every step of the way. Spinks shit himself for Tyson. Hagler wouldn't have been overly fazed by Holyfield, and probably goes a few rounds.

Actually...for someone who was so motivated for Leonard, Hagler pissed away the first 4 rounds (and the fight) by not pushing Leonard and let him win those rounds and ease into the fight and gain the confidence he needed to get the win. (And before I have to hear cries of "Hagler won" from the pro-Hagler crowd...Leonard won the fight and deserved the decision. AND nobody in the history of boxing fans hated Ray Leonard more than me.)

Agreed.. I think it's nerve got the best of him. Wich is weird considering that Hagler was so calm under fire.
And this fight was far from a robbery, it was a close fight that could have gone either way. I also think that SRL edged it

I don't think it was nerves, I think Hagler wasn't taking Leonard or the fight as seriously as he should have and before he knew it he was down on the scorecards with his title on the line and Leonard didn't fold as expected when Hagler actually started fighting and turned up the heat. If Hagler had approached this fight the way he did the Hearns fight, it probably would have turned out quite differently, especially because of Leonard's long layoff.
