Lightweight, but here's the kicker --- it's an eight-round fight. Eight rounds. That's all these boys will get. As you may deduce, I do not consider Mayweather's chances particularly good over the full distance --- not twelve, & certainly not fifteen. Eight, though? These are two very special fighters.
Im not sure it matters. Duran was never a slow starter and I've never seen Floyd fade in the slightest either. I'd imagine the odds would be much the same for 15,12,10,8,6,4, or any other distance. Just, IMO. In any case I pick Duran to do what Castillo did in the middle rounds of the first fight except all night. Duran 6-2.
Very well said! Mayweather has shown great stamina and Duran is a fast starter. Doesn't matter the duration of the fight, same result. Will be a close decision either way IMO. Gimme Floyd though (no surprise there I guess)
Even though Duran was not a slow starter i still think having less rounds is a bit of an advantage to Mayweather. Floyd is very skilled and tricky guy, and in most fights it takes his opponents a while to figure out his style and get the timing. That's usually too much to overcome in a 12 round fight with an elusive counter puncher, let alone if you're given less time. At the same time Floyd usually is able to win a lot of later rounds not just because of stamina, but because he adjusts so well. Just once a guy is starting to have some success they find themselves behind again. If Duran was able to get the jump on Floyd and win early rounds, Floyd might not have enough time to make the necessary adjustments. If Floyd has to play catchup with Duran and open up he'd get the worst of it to be sure.
