Oddly enough, our success in powerlifting means nothing, as the team is a perennial cellar dweller.

Not all of us can raw squat 580x9 @ 190lb or whatever! Or claim to with a straight face. Roughly equaling an all time raw single at the weight (700lb odd) that's stood for about 35 year, if i remember right. Can't compete with that, LOK.:bears:

210 is a decent bench. Anything over 200 is gravy. Good one, Ugo! :bears:

some of you act like anyone benching 250+ must be full of it.. lol

If EVERYONE in your gym is repping 225 easy then it must be a powerlifting or bodybuilding gym rather than a Joe public gym. Probably 5 guys I know of out of the 30 odd regular trainees I see when I go can hit 250. I think I've seen somebody LEGIT benching over 300 once and it was pretty ugly. He also barely squats that much, looks like johnny bravo.

For context, thats what Mark Rippetoe thought were average strength standards for the general training public based on training them for 30 years as well as training one of the more successful olympic weight lifting teams in the country with Glenn Pendlay. Going by the table, looks like a 250 bench takes the average guy roughly 18 months average (not ideal) training in his opinion. Gifted guys can do it in weeks and BLOW past it, most guys in gyms don't get there at all because they never train for that long consistently.

honestly, i don't go to the gym anymore.. as some of you know i'm all about bodyweight training

that said, when I worked at the gym and worked out there, it was GOLD'S and it was not really a family type place for the most part, it was mostly either powerlifters, bodybuilders and athletes.

I shouldn't say "everybody" but most guys there I'd say..

but you are right, it was not the regular gym.. guys there were pretty strong as a whole

This is correct. Golds is mainly just for serious lifters. However, at "Joe public" gym like Bally's or 24 hr fitness, I agree that not many go above the 250 lb mark on the bench "properly". I do emphasize "properly".

My bench is way down. I maxed out at 450 yesterday. I need to hit the gym!
