I'm honestly not sure about this. I'm half inclined to pick Pavlik by TKO, because he's a big, strong middleweight, is younger, and is perhaps a bit underrated after being completely schooled by Hopkins. But at the same time, that Hopkins fight did expose Kelly to a certain degree, he can be completely dominated by a good boxer. Martinez is slick and skilled, he could pull it off, it wouldn't surprise me at all, but Pavlik seems like the kind of guy that should just overpower and outgun a smaller fighter. He seems to have a solid enough chin, but then again he's never been hit by someone as powerful as Pavlik. I might change my mind but I'll go with Pavlik by late TKO, mainly due to Martinez being an aging junior middleweight.
I might change my pick after seeing the pics of the weigh in. I thought Martinez would LOOK like a welterweight next to Pavlik, but actually he is not dwarfed at all. He doesn't look that short, and he looks pretty natural and filled out at 160. Fucking Tall Paul looked much bigger, he is huge :: Here are some weigh in pics.
Just watched the vid of the weigh in. Pavlik didnt look as good as Ive seen him at times. I wont go as far as to say he was drawn, or drained, but I dont see him being able to make 160 too much longer. Martinez on the other hand was ripped, and appears VERY animated and looks super confident. I think we're gonna see an upset tomorrow night.
Fuck it, I'm changing my pick to Martinez UD. He's quick, he's crafty, and he's a southpaw. Seems to have respectable power too, despite his low KO ratio. But an important part of me changing my pick, is that Martinez looks like a pretty fucking solid middleweight, surprisingly. Stylistically I think Martinez is very equipped to beat Pavlik, the main reason I tabbed Pavlik was Martinez being a 154 pounder. Martinez is going to be hit harder than ever before though, he better hope his chin holds up. Does anyone know the odds for this fight?
Martinez should of won against Tall Paul. Or the very least, should of gotten a draw. Hard fight to predict. I'm just not sold on Pavlik ever since his embarrassing defeat at the hands of Hopkins. Not only that,he just hasn't been active at all. I give Pavlik props for taking this fight though. He needs to bring his complete "A" game to compete evenly with Martinez. I will go with Martinez MD. But of course any outcome would not surprise me. I feel if Pavlik wants to be taken seriously again,he needs an impressive win tonight. More likely a KO win would be better for him. I just feel Martinez might too much for Pavlik tonight however.
What time is this fight on at, US time? For simplicity sakes, if you live in NYC, what time would you be sitting down to catch this one? Same for Bute-Miranda. Thanks.
Said Martinez via UD when this fight was talked about back in January and I still say the same. I think he's a fresh 35 year old and I think he's the hungrier of the two. Pavlik to me doesn't have the fire anymore after seeing his two fights post Hopkins and I think alot of it has to do because he's hit the big time now and gotten some nice pay days with the Taylor and Hopkins fights. The Paul Williams situation didn't seem right either. First he cancels then reschedules the fight. Then a few weeks later he can't fight Paul Williams in December but in January or something. Then a week or so after Williams-Martinez is official, Pavlik announces that in that December, 2 WEEKS after his fight with P-Will would have occured, he's fighting some bum who whom has no chance to beat him. I thought he couldn't fight in December???.... Thats old, though. Stylewise, I think Martinez is wrong for Pavlik. The only way I see Martinez losing is if he exchanges too much. I think he'll use his brain more here and he'll counter and move his way to a clear decision victory. Then Kelly Pavlik retires.
Pavlik certainly has more pressure on him to win then Martinez. Sergio losses and he can still go back to weak ass 154 and have success. Kelly loses, and I honestly dunno where he goes. To hell hopefully.
I just realized I fuck that one up. Should be 3 am GMT. I'm used to the 8 hr difference between MY timezone. Hopefully, Irish doesn't blame me when he misses the fight. :crafty:
Actually he's still reading this thread, so he should see it, unless he's just left it open in his browser and gone to bed ::
Huh? I didn't bet on that fight. :nono: I picked Clottey but it was a pretty empty prediction. No money on the fight, didn't care about either fighter.
I don't think straight when I'm still sober. He put in the"NYC time" to make it simple and then I fucked it up because of that. :notallthere: Without thinking about that I would have said 7 pm here, 3 am in the UK. ld:
No one took my offer to bet on the Penis with Teeth. I'm heading next door to watch the fight so the bet is off the table. WAR MARTINEZ!!! :fightme:
It´s good to see Miranda is a different fighter. He just teased the first blatant foul, but didn´t actually do it.
I noticed it, and was going to say no, no fights start at 6am here. :: Main events usually start at 4am.
