I don't think the UFC would do well on network tv. I have always though this. It the reason why boxing isn't on it anymore, and why Strikeforce will probably end up on Showtime only. combat sports is a small market. It has a loyal fanbase, but the average home doesn't know who GSP is nor Dan Henderson. Star power or not, it won't succeed on network tv.

You would also think that they would throw some kinds of Fedor plugs in there somewhere. I mean Jesus, the only thing going for your company at the moment is having the greatest fighter on your roster yet you aren't shoving him down the viewers throats on network tv? Doesn't seem too smart to me.

Agreed. I was wondering when they would talk about him. Maybe they have contractual issues?:dunno:

Gotta wonder how they would've done had Fedor not backed out of the date.

The only way for MMA to succeed on national tv is to have OJ Simpson vs Jose Canseco. And you motherf*ckers would all watch it too!!!!!!
You'd watch it before watching another Jake Shields fight!:lol:

Maybe if CBS promoted Strikeforce, but I see very little publicity

Doesn't surprise me...the line-up looked great to the hardcore fan on paper, but not much to draw-in the casual fans. The boxing on HBO was a lot better....and was there an NBA play-off game at the same time?...they could both be factors.

To the casual fan those fights meant nothing. Strikeforce should come up with some sort of a reality show to get the viewers familiar with the fighters they have.

Remember, MMA as a mainstream sport is still in it's infancy. They haven't figured out how to promote it to the masses yet.

Likely they never will, no matter how many gyms they open up. America is still facing a massive obesity problem and increasing. Most of the fatassed lazy kids out there are playing X-Box and sh*t, not going to f*cking MMA dojos to train in 238 different combat styles in order to attain their dreams of fighting for the UFC for $12,000.
They can't even promote Boxing to the masses. The most violent sport out there. How will they promote MMA where more often than not, where fights involve rolling around on the f*cking ground for the duration? Just look at the StrikeForce card last night. All 3 fights, most of the action was on the ground. Jake Shields basically humping Henderson for 5 rounds and Mousassi enjoying having Mo stick his big black head inbetween his thighs and doing nothing about it.
How do you think the masses will find this entertaining when even hardcore fans are trashing this crap?

They'll pull the plug after the first 6 episodes as the ratings go directly down the sh*tter.

THey put three fights on TV, all featuring Grapplers. That was the mistake.

So why don't they do themselves a favour and make it into K1 or just have pure standup? Because this MMA sh*t obviously isn't working out. People aren't into guys rolling around on the ground like homos I guess.:dunno::lol:
