I know that sounds foolish, but Gilbert really showed how one dimensional he is. He completely laid out the blueprint on how easy it is to beat him. Takedown defense. That is really it. The guy has such horrible standup , his takedowns are laughable, all you have to do is not let it go to the ground. I just don't see how any top LW's would do anything but the same from here on out. I would pick Sean Sherk, Tyson Griffin, Gray Maynard, Frankie Edgar, or how about any LW with a wrestling background to beat him.
Well he was definately exposed to the US audience as a one trick pony. He will always have an eager audience in Japan.
In America he is. But as long as he can fight in Japan and wear his long pants that give him a huge advantage in getting submissions, he'll continue to be succesful. TFK
I can't see how fighters are so dense that they couldn't figure that strategy out before. What other way can you fight someone with great BJJ? Aoki said he'll be back and better than before. The only way I'll take that seriously is if he flies to Thailand, or does something similarly drastic to improve his stand-up.
I would like to see Aoki fight Thales Leites. They can race around the ring scooting their ass around like a kid playing in a sandbox.
