Norris never fought at 160, but at his prime best, I can't see anyway that Pavlik catches him. Norris would be too fast and skilled. I think he could stop Pavlik late. KP would always have a puncher's chance but I say he never gets the chance to do serious damage. Norris TKO 10
come on, Norris could wobbled by jabs for crying out loud... Pavlik may be basically trash but he is a big middleweight who punches plenty hard... He knocks Terry out
I think Pav might catch him eventually, but if Norris could bring up about 75% of his self to 160, he'd have a great chance at the upset. Obviously overall.... Norris was light years better then Pav.
Pavlik isn't a faded former Welterweight and Norris' chin isn't likely become any less fragile at 160 so Pavlik wins by KO/TKO.
BWJ your Norris hate goes too far at times. You should mention that Pav wins this fight on size ONLY! BUT.... Norris had enough handspeed and mobility that the chance of him pulling it off is there. Hell, I'm switching my pick. I'd actually go with Terry. He wouldnt be dumb enough to trade with Pav, and in the face of Terry's footwork and speed Pavlik would be pretty clueless.
Thats the difference there. Pavlik wouldn't be able to line Norris up for a flush right hand. Norris would keep him off balance and confused all night.
Pavlik would catch up with him at some point & knock him out. I have a hard time believing Norris can survive all twelve stanzas without his chin being found by a guy of Pavlik's reach & range, & when he does, Norris is promptly iced.
Have to disagree brother...(I have a great deal of respect for your views) Pavlik would tap that chiny chin chin eventually. Kelly is too big too strong too rangy and too powerful for Norris...regardless of Norris' edge in boxing ability and overall talent. Pavlik KTFO 7
I don't hate Norris, I just recognize him for what he was, a talented fighter with a very shaky chin that was partially disguised by making his name off fighters moving up in weight and moving toward the down side of their careers. And to be honest...lately you seem to be tend to bending over backwards to give him extra credit. And what you are doing now is that thing many do....underrate a fighter coming off a loss. Pavlik's aggressive style, power, and not being a former Welter vs Norris' fragile whiskers = stoppage loss for Norris.
Ive never bent over backwards to give Norris credit! I was always a fan of his. Some ppl overrate him, but I feel that you and Cdogg often sell him short. I dunno maybe I am underrating Pavlik, but the Hopkins and Martinez fights have made it very clear that Kelly is totally useless when given movement. IF Norris could move to 160 and maintain his speed, the chance of him winning is there. Fighting like he did in the Brown rematch, I have a hard time seeing Pav catching him. Norris had good enough legs and reflexes when he boxed to avoid Kelly's slow ass, plodding punches. And Terry at his best had excellent stamina and could maintain it all night. Its an interesting matchup only cause Kelly is CONSIDERABLY the bigger man. P4P Norris had more quality in his left nut then Pav has in his body.
To me...the IF you mentioned is a big one. Seems like you want to think that Norris would be as effective at 160 as he was at 154. Personally I don't see it that way. And more importantly, it seemed like NORRIS didn't see it that way since he was content to make his name against fighters where HE had the size advantage and never made an attempt to take on Middleweights. Even the Brown rematch (and let's not gloss over that there only was a rematch because Brown DESTROYED Norris in their first fight) was against (surprise, surprise) a former Welter whose career had already peaked at the lower weight. And if we're going to use Brown as a barometer for a Pavlik-Norris fight, I see Pavlik-Norris resembling the first Brown-Norris fight much more than the second one. Norris was hurt, couldn't recover and was stopped, which is what I see happening at Middleweight against Pavlik. And to be honest X, I don't have much, if any, use for P4P discussions, so I'm not even gonna get into that with you.
What did he say that was "too far"? Norris's entire legacy is based off of wins against has-been welterweights (including a loss to one, where was BADLY hurt by a JAB)
X, thats the problem though... "fighting like he did in the Brown rematch"... that isnt that big an accomplishment... Brown was a used-up has been going into the FIRST fight, never mind the second Norris never fought a single guy anywhere close to this big or powerful, he would get knocked the hell out
 Funny as hell. And I agree about Pavlik's slow ass shots. Pavlik isn't Julian Jackson. He's not exactly fast handed nor does cut off the ring well. Only way Norris loses to him I think is if he does something dumb. If he keeps his head the way he did in the Brown rematch, he wins this.
Only if Pavlik is magically transformed into a fading former Welter. And Norris is MORE than capable of doing something dumb. I mean...we ARE talking about a fighter who managed to get himself disqualfied in back to back fights against journeyman Luis Santana.
christ, you guys act like Norris was Sugar Ray Robinson The guy had great hands and speed... but he took ZERO chances with his opposition and he had the chin of a placekicker
certainly not but it takes more than Terry Norris and his shot welterweight-beating, waterford crystal-chin-having ass
Norris had the speed and skill to make Pav look totally inept, and would keep him off balance all night to the point where Pav would have trouble landing cleanly.
who says he has to land cleanly? Norris had the chin of a little girl and this is a big middleweight in reality, Norris would never have taken a fight like this
Garo Yepremian just called and said he is insulted and you need to take that back before he kicks your ass.
Absolutely. Norris was content to stay at 154 and take on washed-up big name Welterweights. There is absolutely NO evidence as to how he would do at 160 against legit Middleweight Contenders because he never did so.
