Marciano vs. Tony Thompson Dempsey vs. Maurice Harris Walcott vs. Arreola J. Johnson vs. Akinwande Louis vs. Corie Sanders Scmelling vs. Tony Tucker
Winners boldened: Thompson by stoppage in later rounds, too much size and reach Dempsey by KO. To put off old time lovers I pick Dempsey though I could see it going either way Walcott by dec. He had quick movement and he was tough enough to take Arreola's shots. Good style matchup in favor of Walcott Akinwande with greatest of ease. Louis would be intelligent enough to stay away for about six rounds and take over Tucker bombs Schemling out in mid rounds
Yes. And they don't have anything to do with who would beat whom across decades. For example, Tucker, considered an average contender in the 80's, would've smashed Marciano. How's Jack Johnson possibly going to beat Tony Thompson?
Noone will ever sing odes for Canada's recent Army either, even though it could probably beat the legendary Army of Xerxes (if barely)
Which of Tucker's victims would you say were so far superior to Marciano, they would have stood him in good stead to, "smash" his man? He is fighting Schmeling here, anyway --- another fighter leagues above anyone Tucker beat, & second only to Lewis & Tyson --- two men Tucker didn't get near beating --- on Tucker's resume. Johnson isn't fighting Thompson, either. He's fighting Oquendo.
i go with the old timers in basically every fight Akinwandee totally blows.. I mean, Jack johnson might had a wacked stype and would get destroyed by a lot of modern champs.. but Akinwdee has gotta be one of the worst of all time
seriously... I mean seriously... I pick the guy on the right in all of these fights.. for the fact is you picked modern guys that are basically bums.. corie sanders can crack but come on.. Joe Louis would destroy him won 66 (KO 52) + lost 3 (KO 2) + drawn 0 = 69 rounds boxed 418 KO% 75.36 Joe whupped up on people... 52 knockouts..
Akinwande was shit, no doubt. Stylewise there's no reason to put a pile of money on Johnson. I don't even consider JJ a top 10 all time heavyweight because it was practically a different sport when he was fighting. I don't consider it "newtimer bias", but just altogether different. It's not just the size. Compare modern basketball before the 24 second shot was introduced.
I agree with Ramonza on all counts EXCEPT Jack Johnson His style is from the old age... when boxing was much slower paced, involving a lot of grappling for position... granted, for that time, he was an absolute MASTER boxer... but when Dempsey came to the fore a little bit later, the style of fighting was inexorably altered... it would never be the same again... Jack Johnson deserves to be ranked as one fo the great ones, MILES BEYOND a stiff like Akinwande... but in reality, he would have never seen anyone fight that way... I personally think Dempsey would have smashed Jack johnson much like Jack Johnson would have annihlated John L Sullivan or Peter Jackson... its like two different sports...
Really?? Who considered Tucker to be that? Tucker held a title and was probably the best fighter Tyson fought during his 80's title reign.
