You know, Ive been a MW fan for alot of years and I thought he took a step in the right direction in the Marquez shows by showing him some respect as a fighter and as a man.


But then the Mosley series. There is NO reason to trash talk Mosley. Mosley has proven himself for 15 years as the consummate professional in terms of his behavior outside and inside the ring.

It just speaks volumes on how a person's behavior is shaped by their upbringing and influence of their parents.

I absolutely LOVE Floyd as a fighter and I thought he was playing the role of the villain for marketing purposes, but to trash talk a guy like Mosley like this proves that he is not an act.

 

The most thought provoking minute of the most recent 24-7 was the first minute.

It provoked thoughts of "Wow, will I bother downloading parts 2 and 3??"

 

The best part starts a little earlier...pay attention to the words said in the prayer...

And HBO has done their best to show a "different" side of Floyd but it comes off as contrived and phony. That's the problem. There's far too much of the buffoonery going on. I'm willing to bet at some point Floyd will say he was portrayed poorly.

Floyd's been on what...four 24/7's and all of them showed the same minstrel show bullshit. At least three of the four mentioned some kind of court case or relationship to violence...two of which surrounded Roger.

The past episode attempted to show Roger in a sympathetic light with the diabetes and his "love" for his son...they didn't mention the fact Roger knocked out the teeth of his sons grandmother.

24/7 is shite. It really is so corny, the schmaltz is laid on way too thick. All that sappy music in the background and slow-motion sequences....fucking terrible.

 

My theory is this:

He LIKES and RESPECTS Shane. As such the only way he can motivate himself to get "UP" for teh fight is to constantly trash talk in the hopes of:

a) getting Shane to trash talk back
b) be the motivation itself as he now knows he has to back up his boasts.

Floyd does this stuff to motivate himself. Ali used to do the same thing by his own admission.

 

If I was fighting a broke-ass 40 year old who was out of the game for 18 months I would probably need motivational aids too. :shit:

 

I agree with richardson to an extent...

I don't like Floyd's walking around with Cash and cursing and acting like a stereotypical black hoodlum. (on a side note: I also don't like the appearance the corn row wearing fuckers that train with Shane that have the steroetypical laugh where they put their fist to their mouths and duck as they are laughing)

However

I don't like the extreme that Shane is. It's good for HIM...but wouldn't boxing build ups be BORING AS HELL if all fighters conducted themselves the way Shane does? Boxing isn't a gentleman's sport like Tennis or Golf. It's SUPPOSED to have trash talk. It's about beating up another guy. Trash talk is great for the sport.

Only casual boxing fans didn't know nor have respect for Naazim. For what it's worth, I didn't realize Karl Dargan was his cousin. I saw Dargan fight as an amateur several times and thought he was a good fighter. Was a little surprised he didn't make the Olympic team but he had more of a pro style even then.

Wow....might have to snatch your Black card for this one. One of the guys is Rock Allen...Naazim's son. the other two are Karl and Mike Dargan...his cousins...both are fighters as well.

Here's the thing about Shane...he's being himself. Nothing more, nothing less. he's got a mean streak as well which comes out in the ring. Like it or not it does matter how you conduct yourself outside the ring. oscar had a "nice guy' persona and we all knew he was a phony. Shane is simply being himself.

my take on Floyd remains the same...i've always seen him as an insecure guy. Despite all the shit talking and boasting I think he's highly insecure and immature.

While trash talking is one thing...the Mayweather's as a unit represent everything negative in terms of stereotypes for Black folks...which is what Richardson is talking about. They are caricatures and the sad thing is, they're too fucking stupid to realize how they are playing themselves.

Ali talked shit, but Ali stood for something....at least during the 60's he did. Say what you want about the guy for better or worse he was his own man. Floyd and company have put themselves so far out there even legitimate glimpses of humanity are treated as suspect.

that takes his "persona" way past anything else. As much as I scratch my head at how Tyson blew his money...you'd think Floyd would have learned. Name one fighter who had that kind of a lifestyle and entourage who DIDN'T end up broke.

I, for one, won't be hurt when that day comes for Floyd.
