Another popular character (who, also like De La Hoya, has polarised many people) who was involved in several convtroversial outcomes to fights. How did you score these, if you recall? As with De La Hoya, I see less true controversy than is usually argued (these men both inspire a lot of hate, which is probably no coincidence). I have Ali receiving the right end of the stick on what I consider to be only two truly indefensible robberies --- against Young, & Norton III. Those were clear losses, for mine. In my view, the fight with Jones was a draw, though if you pushed me, I would lean toward Jones. I thought he just nicked his second fight with Norton, & was home with virtually no room to spare at all against Shavers. Only twice did he honestly receive gifts in all his career, for mine. A far cry from the, "five or six" decisions his more vehement critics cavalierly write-up. Even so, those two losses should've cost him his belt. He was at least magnanimous enough to concede publicly he lost that third fight with Norton. Young, for his part, was given no such concession. "We know what happened, don't we?" - Jimmy Young, speaking to Muhammad Ali.
I can't remember by scorecards for these ones but i remember who i thought won: Ali-Jones draw (5-5?) Ali over Norton 2 Young over Ali (begrudgingly cuz young was a bitch) Norton over Ali 3 Ali over Shavers
I had Ali beating Jones 6-3-1. I had Shavers beating Ali 9-6. I wasn't impressed by all those quick arm flurries that Ali threw that mostly hit gloves. Interestingly I read an article where Shavers said he didn't disagree with the decision.
Ali over Jones Ali over Norton II Ali over Young Norton over Ali III Ali over Shavers Of all the fights that Ali haters whine about, the only one I truly felt should have gone the other way was the 3rd Norton fight.
