I was listening to him on Rome is burning and he continues to say he's better than Ali and Robinson.

I can live with him saying all of that. Where I draw the line is when he says his resume is the equivalent to both guys.

    Are you fucking kidding???:dunno:

He went on another tangent about how Ali lost to Norton 3 times. I'm the biggest Ali fan ever, and I can make an argument that he may have lost all three Norton fights, but the freaking record shows he only lost one!

He had the audacity to ask, "what do the guys that Ali fought have on the guys of my era???" Once again, let's say this together...

    Are you fucking kidding???:dunno:

I like Floyd. We were in the PAL Nationals at the same time in '95, when he was 17. But c'mon, stop the crap!! Where's R. A. The Rugged Man? He'll set this shit straight.

His views on Ali are consistent with everything else that comes out of his mouth - absurd.

R.A the Rugged Man is hilarious.

    Anyway...

nothing wrong with self belief. Floyd thinks he's the best ever and I applaud him for risking ridicule and saying what he thinks.

His resume isn't as good as Ali's or Robinson's but skill for skill he has an argument to say he's overall more talented than either.

I don't have a big problem about it...he's very self-confident and he probably believes what he says. It's not much of a leap really, but up until now he's probably been too polite to say it, believe it or not.

Yeah, true. But no one is questioning his talent. His resume, relative to the aforementioned, is shit. And that's even with a win against "Nosely" and Pacquiao.

Until you put somebody in with equivalent opposition anyone can say anything. Andre Ward can say he's better than Roberto Duran, Chad Dawson can say he's better than Salvador Sanchez, Esk can say he's better than Tito Trinidad :lol:all bets are off.

Impressive wins over those guys and he's taken some HUGE steps in the right direction. The comparison stops being laughable. It won't hold up yet but it won't be laughable any more.

    True...

But as I said before....Floyd has fought the "truth machines" already. You can't be a fraud and beat Castillo twice, beat hatton, beat Judah, beat Oscar at 154lbs etc.

So he's fought the truth machines that would have exposed him if he was just flash. In that sense he's not like some of the guys you just mentioned.

I agree he would have taken huge steps in the right direction. But two fights is where it may end and I don't believe just two fights would be enough. Two steps forward, and then a stand still stops the march towards unconditional greatness.

By the way, I will give his resume a thumbs up compared to Roy Jones', however.

I said this in another thread...

There's a laundry list of guys Floyd could have but didn't fight. It's easy to fight the same kind of guys and look great in doing it...Corley, Mitchell and Judah are pretty much the same fighter...same with guys like Hernadez (Carlos) and Chavez.

the bottom line is this, Ali fought in what can be considered the greatest era of heavyweights and not only did he fight them all he BEAT them all.

Floyd can't say that about any division he's fought in.

The same goes for Robinson. I read somewhere that Robinson fought something like 30 Hall of Fame fighters...how many will Floyd have fought?

    Mosley & DLH?

Corrales, Gatti, Hatton, Castillo, Hernandez (Genaro)...none of those cats stack up to the guys Ali or Robinson fought.

It's a schtick...I get it. I applaud Floyd for running his mouth...makes his fall the more telling and embarassing. Can't wait to see him crying like a bitch over not getting respect etc. Don't forget how he cried like a three year old after the Baldomir fight. Remember that?

Remember, I was the same one who had the thread a few weeks ago about how Floyd got after guys. I have always been impressed with his defense and do see him as a safety first fighter; however, he got after a number of guys and showed a mean streak that he does not get credit for. i.e. Corrales, Judah, N'Dou, Augustus, Hatton, Chavez, Genaro Hernandez......

Brother Naazim said he's looking for Floyd to sprout a tail, wings, claws and breath fire..... Brother Naazim knows Floyd has it in him, and I believe so, too. I just don't think it's a long-term solution for him.

Look I've said before that Floyd has taken a page from George Bush and simply stated lies as truth. It's a stroke of genius really. Who watches these talk shows? Mainstream fans that's who, so when he says his past opponents shit on Ali, Robinson, and whoever or that he's making 40 million per fight the people don't know he's lying. Then they go to work and tell their friends the same shit.

As of now I think Roy's wins over Toney & Hops trump Floyd's resume. I'd have Roy quite a distance above Floyd.

Well he ain't a fraud for sure he's a stick on first ballot HOF fighter if he retired tomorrow. It's just a matter of scale on how great he is....just like Dawson & Ward haven't proven themselves as good as Floyd yet, Floyd hasn't proven himself as good as Ray Robinson, willie Pep, Henry Armstrong, Ezzard Charles, Ray Leonard etc yet. Exact same thing, Floyd's just operating on a higher scale to those guys by the comparisons he keeps making for himself and because of his talent.

As long as Roy is still fighting, he also loss to Hopkins as well. I look at it the same way I see Hearns/Leonard II... It's still part of both fighter's resume.

Yeah, but properly assessing a fighter's career is more than just listing the names on the resume.

well, i didn't think Baldomir would make him cry. and i also don't think PBF looked particularly good against him either.

    agREED...

Justified or Not, U Can Make a CASE for Floyd "Ducking" VARIOUS Fighters, Whereas there's NOT a Single Fighter U Can Accuse Ali or Robinson of Avoiding....

    Sure, Floyd's "0" is IMPRESSIVE, but it DOESN'T Trump the "Who's & What's" of Ali & Robinson's Resumes & Accomplishments....

If that were REALLY the Case, why Wouldn't MORE Fans Hold Hearns in the Same or HIGHER Regard than they Do Leonard???...

which in a sense was even more ridiculous since they were tears of joy at having beaten Gatti.

after the Baldomir fight, he cried tears of sorrow at the fans' finally expressing their disgust over his bore-fests.

poor poor Floyd. Crying like a baby. I'm sure the millions of dollars he earns from fight purses and PPV dollars based upon the fans that make him the richest fighter in the sport, are enough to dry away his many tears....

But don't forget, Floyd is so good that he is above that silly "fighting" thing. Everyone knows he would win no matter who he fought, so what is the point of actually getting in the ring.

At that level, everybody has to believe they're better than what they probably are. If not how are you gonna push yourself to the top or in Floyd's case to stay at the top? We're talking about world class at the highest level. The only difference here is that doesn't give a fuck if he's gonna get a knee jerk reaction in a boxing forum because he already knows he's hated all around so he goes out and says it like that.

    Joe...

Has anyone ever said this thing that you keep repeating? Floyd fans, like myself, have said that he doesn't need to fight certain guys because he'd beat them anyway?

It's funny....I was driving down Muhammad Ali Ave in Newark today and thinking, 'I wonder how many cities are gonna have a Floyd Mayweather Jr Ave' one day?

    I'm guessing none.
