Shane is no Cotto either. IMO Cotto that Manny just beat would beat the Shane that Floyd just beat. I also think Cotto is stronger than Shane.

The Mosley PBF just beat is a mere shadow of the one Cotto beat.

JMM had the style to cause Pac problems any time and always. He is a crisp, quick counterpuncher and is as durable as hell.

    Bottom line- styles make fights.

Without his EPO he sure gasses quick.

whatever it is he's been using - i agree. Mosley was not the same fighter we've seen. not by a long-shot. i'd still pick an EPO Shane to beat Berto, but not the Shane who fought Saturday.

I agree. Manny would have to fight a disciplined fight like he fought against Oscar and not try to "walk through" Floyd...and Floyd would have to make his jab work and hit his body to setup a late round rally. Fascinating match-up.

I always knew Floyd can do it all. Fight cautious, potshot, he can feel an opponent weakening, proceed to walk him down, take more chances, brilliant inside FIGHTER, sharp counterpuncher. GENIOUS.

Nothing has changed. The only frustrating aspect is his choice of opponents in recent history which could be explained as making the most financial sense without the risk. But then he ascerbates the problem with his talk of being the best which make people LOATHE him.

I would be interested to see how much Pacquaio's punch output and accuracy would be reduced in facing Floyd.

Sorry but if that were to actually happen all credit would go to the absence of PED's and not anything that Floyd does.

I agree with you..that Manny's speed and movement (and stamina) is the key to beat Floyd. I've always said hat manny has the best style to beat mayweather. Manny has undoubtedly faster hands than Floyd for one thing.

The thing you must remember though is that Mayweather has fought at a speed disadvantage before...Zab Judah, and after 3 rounds he figured out his man and dealt with it.

Secondly...Whatever advantages Manny has over mayweather in terms of speed, and power.....his advatages in those areas were far more pronounced against marquez..and in two fights and 24 rounds..marquez arguably won 14 of them.

Jab up Manny get him weary of fast counters and you beat him...regardless of his speed and more advantage. As you know, Floyd is Marquez X 3!

Zab is a mental midget, though, and in any event is a far lesser fighter than Pacquiao is.

Marquez has incredible durability, though. He was able to do what he did against Pacquiao because he was somehow able to keep going despite being knocked over a ridiculous amount of times.

Can Mayweather do the same thing? We don't know because he has never been in that position before. The little evidence we have suggests that he has a far poorer chin than JMM but has a lot of grit and courage to fight back when he is hurt and seems to have good recuperative powers. He was also smart enough to hold on close and smother Shane when he had him badly bhurt, unlike say Cotto and Hatton who were daft enough to go looking for a firefight.

Lots of imponderables. That is what makes the fight such a mouthwatering prospect.

Fair enough but if Pacman hurts PBF like Mosley did then the fight could be over. I hope the fight gets made!

Just how do you figure? Barrera had Marquez down and hurt badly (teh ref just didn't call it by mistake). Mayweather was rocked by Shane but never hit the canvas and recovered very quickly and went back on the attack. To this day Floyd hasn't been legitimately knocked down and I've seen him take punches from Castillo, Judah and De La Hoya. "Far poorer chin than JMM"??? That's based upon nothign I'm afraid to say.

Pacquaio won't fade like Judah did. Best STAMINA in the sport.

Pacquaio fought Marquez at lower weights. This version of Pacquaio with his improvements sparks Marquez RTFO.

Pacquaio is a pretty good counterpuncher too. And he counters with power, not just jab over jab.

Pacquaio has size, reach, strength and overall boxing ability disadvantages. The only thing going for him is his unpredicability and throwing shots from odd angles.

Mayweather knows how Pacquaio will fight him. The same can not be said of Pacquaio. Mayweather changes up strategies depending on the opponent.

    That's not true.

Let's say that Pac was the one that hurt Floyd...and Floyd hadn't yet fought Shane..people would have said:

"if Shane hurts PBF like Pacquiao did then the fight could be over"...and would point to the fact that Shane's a tremendous finisher and naturally bigger man than Pacquiao.

Shane has Stopped HUGE fighters like Margarito, Mayorga and Vargas. So i submit...that if Shane couldn't stop mayweather when Floyd was stunned...no evidence suggests that the smaller Pacman could either.

Anything in relation to PED"S is pure SPECULATION. Make everything public and have Pacquaio agree to the testing.

Floyd's speed, counter abilities and movement REDUCES his opponent's volume output.

JMM is knocked down a trillion times, but very rarely is he actually hurt or looking in any danager of being stopped.

I'm not certain that Floyd has a poor chin, admittedly. It's more of a hunch I've had for a long time and this was supported by the fact that Shane hurt him badly with about the only two punches he landed all night- the second of which very nearly knocked him down hard (I'm still surprised he didn't touch down, TBH). Hatton also knocked him backwards with a jab as I recall early in their fight and didn't Judah actually KD Floyd but it wasn't scored as such? I can't quite recall... :dunno:

Anyway, it's difficult to know for sure of course because Mayweather is so adept at not being hit  As I said, these little imponderables are what makes the failur of Pacquiao and Mayweather to make that fight to date so goddamn annoying.

I think if we look closely after he landed the right hand bomb, Mosley took him to the ropes but after that he rarely threw any shots and INITIATED the clinches instead of avoiding smothering his own shots. ABSURD.

Exaggerate much? Like I've said before....maybe I am a harder marker than most. But it's gonna take more than a win over a 38 year old fighter coming off a layoff of over a year to prove Mayweather is great at 147.

If that's all it took for you to come to this conclusion than I would have to say your standards for "great" are pretty low.

i thought the fight woudl play out just like it did..

i hope for Shane to do it but he didn't... and he looked TOTALLY GASSED so early! I think he really did stop his EPO or whatever.. .

I always thought Floyd would whup Pac.. and stop him.. and I still do
