Thought just occurred.....will Juan Manual Marquez go down as the ONLY great fighter to win their first world title in the 00's? Seriously?
There's a lot of fighters that might be considered great in 2016...Chad Dawson, the Klits, everyone in the super 6 including bute , bradley, maidana....I think there'll be a good handfull of greats that won their first world title in the 00's.
Unfortunately I don't think any of them will go down as great. Andre Berto, Chad Dawson, Bute....these guys are no better than your Taylor, Cotto or Vargas'. B, B+ fighters.
Give them time my friend, give them time. For they know not what they can achieve at this present moment in time.
I personally can't imagine anybody talking about Chad Dawson or Lucian Bute in 50 years with awed reverence.
I used to think Calzaghe was a bum and Hatton was a future great...these things have a way of working themselves out.
If another Joe Calzaghe is the best the next decade has to offer I think I'll go pull a River Pheonix and die young.opcorn:
None of these guys are a Ray Robinson or Tommy Hearns or Emile Griffith or Roy Jones or Pernel Whitaker or even a Pac or Floyd. They just aren't, Im afraid. I don't even think they're a JMM. Sorry to be negative nelly guys, still love boxing as much as ever, just a depressing & startling observation. :boohoo:
Gotta agree. No fucking way this decade will give us boxers coming close to doing what Mayweather-Pacquiao are doing-did. The 90's are the end of an era I'm afraid.
i guess this depends if you consider the wbo a legitimate title. ronald wright was a great fighter as was joe calzaghe, among others
Good shout. That boy looks very useful indeed. Also, I think Tim Bradley has a lot of potential. I like the bloke a lot and he could mature into a very handy fighter. He fights anyone put in front of him, anywhere, which is usually a sign of a real fighter IMHO. MTF
Hatton won his first 'proper' title in 2005 I think (that WBU shit doesn't count for anything). Is he considered a 'great'? He might be, depending on your definition I guess. He's a shoe-in as one of the best ten British fighters of all time, certainly. MTF
The 'boy' is 30 years old. Tim Bradley again, good, not great. Ditto for Hatton. Yet another reason Pac-May MUST happen. It may be the last meeting of great fighters we see for a very, very long time.
A suprising swab of whities oughta tickle ya fancy,.. with that said... OH,.. I have a question,.. what do you think of Arabham's apparent honkeydom?..:crafty::crafty::crafty::crafty:!!! ,..(Let's see what happens this time)..
