i have to ask - what's it mean if he hasn't faced a Derrik Gainer or a John Brown? do you mean, has he faced RJJ? Or PBF? The two fighters for whom you show up to this board? No. He has not.

It's merely trivia. But it's interesting that manny has got to P4P number 1 status without beating a single African american fighter...

Oh, no doubt. I hadn't even noticed, & of course, there are many more prominent African-Americans around these divisions than Filipinos.

You are right, it is interesting trivia. I still have a sneaking suspicion Pacquiao will pull a mild upset & win this fight, should it happen, but I wish Mayweather had stayed the course where his humility was concerned. He really made a fan out of me in the early going, but I switched off to him a long time ago. I can't really say I would take anywhere near the satisfaction from his losing to anyone a lot of people here would, but I think he could be in for a rude awakening against Pacquiao. Let me put it this way --- I'd expect Mayweather to win two fights in a trilogy, but the one he'd lose would be the first, & that's all there's likely to be, so...

why is it interesting? he's been at 130 and below for most of his career - weight classes that traditionally are dominated by Hispanic and Asian fighters.

Should he have faced Judah instead of Cotto? The way PBF did?

you forgot to mention that cotto fought judah, who was coming off a loss to mayweather. if i recall correctly, fans were pretty hyped about cotto-judah and praised cotto for the victory. go figure.

why would i have mentioned that? it makes no sense to mention it in this context. what is your point? are you going to question Cotto's competition? of all fighters? aside from Pacquiao, and possibly JMM, what current fighter has faced tougher competition?

so what is your point? were fans pretty hyped about PBF-Judah? With Judah coming off a loss to Baldomir?

regardless of the gay race baiting post. hahah

it is true. very few guys look good against pure boxers/slicksters. pacquiao has never really fought one. unfortunately (cuz i want to see floyd get beat) i think pacquiao gets beaten convincingly.

slydaft makes a valid point. although i pointed this out and had the pacquiao faction in a uproar quite a while ago

a bit odd that the dude has made his way through the ranks from 122 up to 147 without fighting one single black american

Maybe he never fought any, because the rare few that were ranging in these low divisions were not good enough, and they got wiped out with ease before even becoming contenders. If we want to get racial, black americans are not the 'danger' at these very low weights, it appears to be hispanics.

Desperation and frustration is at the core of this thinking, because DAMN this thread appears to be way too common accross multiple forums.

    It can be argued...

    Mosley
    Mayweather
    Paul Williams
    Zab Judah
    Corley

There are lots of African Americans in and around the Welterweight area.

He hasn't been a welterweight long enough.

Yet in two fights he's taken on Clottey and Cotto.

That's just crazy. Like he is a career welterweight or something. I suppose he should have fought either Kessler, Ward, and Pavlik by now as well, right?
