Sounds about right. No way in hell this was getting to 2 million buys with Shanes drawing power. Mayweather has done well to get over a million with a guy who can't sell out a ballroom on his own.
didn't Pac-Cotto do 1.25 million? DAMMIT i used to keep all the PPV #'s but my spreadsheet stops at 2008. what a darsh
1.1 sounds about right. Mosley's a much bigger name than Clottey and I think Floyd's a SLIGHTLY bigger draw than Pac, so 1.1 vs 0.7 sounds about right. I'd imagine if Pac & Floyd swapped opponents Pac-Mosley would have did about 1m and Floyd-Clottey about 0.9m. Thats about how I gauge their relative draw.
Never underestimate how many Filipinos you can actually get into a small room around the same TV. Smaller eyes allows more of them to watch the same tele without robbing each others line of vision. I am sure that if Filipinos were the same size as black or white people that Manny would be doing 3m, 4m PPV easy vs Clottey.
That's a scientific fact. Its why they have a bigger screen in cinemas- there are more people watching. I dont know why they advertise it as a "big screen"....like that was a bonus or something. Seriously.....If every 3-4 Pinoys bought their own PPV instead of packing into a room 1000 deep, Manny would be doing 3m-4m easy.
According to the Pac-Fanatics - the opponent doesn't matter. Floyd is now the automatic better and bigger draw because his last PPV did better numbers. That's how it was when Pac-Cotto outsold Floyd-JMM
The disparity in name power between Cotto/Marquez, and Mosley/Clottey wasn't NEARLY as pronounced, so there was a fairer comparison to make there. Like I said, Floyd's about a 5-10% bigger draw, but the difference is pretty small.
Is he? Bigger at the gate draw in NY, yes. Bigger name to help sell a ppv......?? Dunno about that. Mosley is a very good name to have as dance partner. Everybody knows that name, it's sellable to the casuals as an opponent for a superstar to fight.
