Has Manny Pacquiao ever fought an African American?

The first part simply isn't true.

As for your second point... Pacquiao clearly side-stepped Zahir Raheem after the Z-man schooled Morales.

Why is that noteworthy? Is it also notworthy than Mayweather has never faced an asian fighter? Or is it due to the fact that he fights in a higher weight class than most asians?

He avoided Raheem by facing a guy who has already beaten him? Was Raheem a guy anyone really wanted Manny to face? Where was the demand for this fight?

Where are all the 135 and below african americans what were around for Manny to face?

    I wanted Manny/Raheem after Pacquiao/Morales II.

Name a single hall of fame fighter from the 30s onward who fought anywhere from 122-147 who never fought a single african american. There can't be many, at all.

Nobodies saying Pac avoided anyone - just that it's a historical ODDITY. Something can be notable without it being an accusation, calm down.

Anyways, Zed, lets not forget the real point here... your Asian heavyweight comparison really makes you come across as a big cage fighting fan. :atu:

Corley? Really? Maybe Witter or Bradley, but Corley couldn't win a fight from 2006-2008. Corley was done years before Pac moved up.

Zab was not in the same division, and he's been spotty at best over the past few years.

I believe he tried for Mosley, but Shane was slated to face Berto. Then that fell through and Shane was offered Mayweather, so Pac took Clottey.

Paul Williams could have been a possibility but he had already moved up to Junior Middle by the time Pac fought DLH. Then he moved up to middleweight.

    Still trying for Mayweather.

This was only in response to Double L.

Again...I'm not saying that pac deliberately avoided anyone..I'm just pointing out that it's interesting trivia.

Actually Pac took Clottey because Mosley was supposed to face Berto, but then the Haiti thing happened and Berto dropped out, freeing up Shane for Mayweather.

God forbid I don't agree with you goons all the time. Here I thought this was a place to debate. I guess when you have nothing you just resort to insults.

I asked multiple times who all these dominant african american fighters are that Manny could have fought. So far you came up with one. Raheem.

So over the course of his entire career, there has been one guy who isn't even very good that he could have fought. How historically significant.

For fuck sake man. Who said it was a matter of DUCKING anybody? You brought that up, you're the only person wanting to talk about Pac ducking anyone.

Again - how many hall of fame fighter from the 1930s onward between 122 and 147lb got to age 31 without fighting an African American? Is there a single one? And if not will you admit it's an historically interesting ODDITY that PAc hasn't? Not that it means he's ducked anybody or that it belittles his career one iota - just that its an interesting oddity?

People could start fights in empty rooms in this place.

It's certainly anomalous. Then again, there has been a pronounced shift towards lighter weight Latino champions over the last 20 years. Corrales, Castillo, Morales, Juan Diaz, Roberto Garcia, Acelino Freitas, Jesus Chavez, Edwin Valero, Juan Lazcano, Cesar Bazan, Humberto Soto, MAB, Juan Manuel Marquez...the lighter we go, the more Latino champs we see.

And Manny Pacquiao was known as a "Mexican-killer" for awhile.

No, I believe that was how it happened. Berto-Mosley was supposed to happen, and when negotiations for Mayweather-Pacquaio fell apart, Manny took Joshua Clottey. Then Berto dropped out because of what was happening in Haiti, saying he was exhausted, and so Mayweather and Mosley were both free. Mayweather was taking a lot of flack from the Manny Pacquaio supporters, but then he added Mosley to his dancecard after Pac took Clottey.

Sorry, I thought you were implying that Pacquaio would have fought Mosley if he wasn't tied up with Berto.

At no point was team Pacquiao interested in fighting Mosley anywhere close to 147.

In fact, as I re-read your post, that's pretty obviously what you were implying.

That's the part that isn't true. You're right on the rest.

I believe Pac's handlers made an offer to Mosley at one point, but it was at something like 143 or 144. I'm trying to remember the exact timing of it, but I'm not trying to say something that isn't true.:dunno:

It was 142 if I remember right. And I don't believe I formal offer was ever made, because Shane probably would have accepted 142.

"Earlier, Pacquiao’s Trainer Freddie Roach asked Mosley if he is willing to trim down to 142 for a shot at the pound-for-pound king but Mosley declined. “Now, if Shane Mosley wants to fight Manny at 143 or 144, then we’re in business,â€￾ Roach said. "

Looks like what I said checked out. This is from last year.

This is not the same thing as 'Manny would have fought Mosley if he wasn't tied up with Berto'

    Pacquiao chose Cotto.

    http://www.manilatimes.net/national/2009/june/04/yehey/sports/20090604spo1.html

His handlers made an offer to Mosley at 142. Mosley declined. Then Freddie Roach said, "“Now, if Shane Mosley wants to fight Manny at 143 or 144, then we’re in businessâ€￾.

I couldn't remember the exact timing of it, but Pacquaio's handlers did make at least one bid to Mosley. He would have been willing to fight Mosley, but Mosley didn't want to drop down that light (and I don't blame him). No idea of what happened after that, but he did say he was willing to fight him at 142, which Mosley declined.

Regardless, they made an offer to Mosley in June for an October 17th fight. Mosley took the Berto fight in November instead. Pac was trying to get Mosley to fight initially at 142, and then Roach said at 143 or 144, and I guess that was the sticking point...but Pac did say he was willing to fight Mosley. Mosley-Berto was announced November 14th.

So Pac did take Clottey, and part of it was because negotiations with Mosley didn't work out---Mosley chose to unify with Berto (the other part was that negotiations with Mayweather didn't work out).

Pac made the fight with Clottey after Mosley was already set to fight Berto.

So what exactly did I say that wasn't true?
