Mayweather-Pacquiao in October or November, Says Roach

    By Mark Vester

Trainer Freddie Roach is confident the mega-fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. will happen this year. He thinks the fight will land in October or November. Roach appeared on an ESPN radio affiliate 790TheZone. Top Rank's Bob Arum is flying out to the Philippines to support Pacquiao during his political campaign. Roach says the veteran promoter will sit down with Pacquiao to discuss the Mayweather fight.

Roach thinks the two sides will resolve the drug testing drama and make the fight happen. The two sides were unable to reach a deal earlier this year when they couldn't agree on the cut-off date for the random blood tests. Mayweather's side wanted the random Olympic style drug tests to continue until 14 days prior to the fight. Pacquiao wanted them to end 24-days prior to the fight. Roach is willing to meet them in the middle, at 17 or 18 days.

“Yes, it is going to happen. I just talked to Bob Arum yesterday. Bob is flying to the Philippines to make Manny the offer. We are going to make this work the best we can. I think we have enough ammo to get it done quickly because there is a lot of money out there. We’re going to meet in the middle [on the drug tests]. They wanted 14. We wanted 24. [We'll do] 17, 18-days," Roach said. "They are talking October, November. Definitely [to happen] before the year is out."

If I was Floyd I'd tell them to stick their '18 days' up their arse. What a crock of shite. 'Yeah, we'll fight, but only if we have 18 days to dope our man up. No 14 days isn't enough doping time'. Seriously, how can Roach even hit out with this pish in public?

If Floyd accepts this nonsense I'll actually be supporting him in the fight for the general good. Never thought I'd EVER see the day when that disgusting turd was the lesser of two evils.

What if Floyd somehow requested a thorough test after the fight? Is that possible? This way he can accept the 18 day window and assure himself Pac can't dope up. Just a though......

Absolutely,.. I hope Fraud doesn't go back to '14 days' , even Conte said that would still give Pedquiao plenty of oppurtunity.

I think Floyd should even take the 14 days off the table and demand 100% compliance with USDA regulations. That means tests right up the fight and after. Fuck Pac and his little body, or his religion, or his fright of needles or his superstitions or is there any other stupid excuses the little chimp gave?

Roach is blowing hot air. No negotiations are taking place between his camp and Team Mayweather. He's just trying to force the issue and bend for compromise by switching the USADA protocol of up until the eve of the fight, to Floyd's compromise of 14--comparing it to 24 days.

In other words, more BS. Don't hold your breath.

1st off, PBF already agreed to 14.

2nd off, the middle is 20! Not 18. Not 17.

I saw an article, I think on SI, quoting Pac as saying he'd be willing to change his stance and do the 14 days. I think he's ready to make the fight happen.

I hope Fraud's camp listens to the doping expert Victor Conte, who said 14 days would easily give Pedquiao something to work with.

"Pacquiao softens stance on cut-off for testing for Mayweather bout"

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/mma/boxing/05/03/pacquiao.mayweather.testing/index.html

"WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao has budged. The Filipino champion is now willing to agree to Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s previous cut-off date for a random Olympic-style drug testing protocol. Earlier this year, the two sides failed to reach an agreement for a March mega-fight. The issue of random drug testing was the root cause for the failed negotiations.

The two fighters were unable to agree on the cut-off date for the blood tests. Mayweather wanted a 14-day cut-off on the tests, while Pacquiao wanted the random drug testing protocol to end 24-days before the fight. Now Pacquiao is willing to meet Mayweather's number.

"I am willing to help the sport for the future of the sport. I do not want to see anyone cheat or cheat this sport. For that reason I am willing to consider taking blood as close as 14 days prior to the fight, as long as, my opponent does the same, and it is not a lot of blood, just enough to test," Pacquiao said in a statement on his official website, mpboxing.com .

"I do not want anyone having an unfair advantage where someone may get hurt. I am willing to do my part to help this sport out."

Pacquiao has not yet watched Mayweather's domination of Shane Mosley, but plans to watch the fight very soon. He also agreed to take a blood test immediately after the fight was over.

Nothing is set in stone. The next time the two fighters meet at the negotiating table, Mayweather might issue a demand for a smaller cut-off date or he might even make a demand for the testing to continue until the fight."

19 actually, for all the relevance it has to anything. My point is Floyd should have the right to ensure that his opponent isn't doping before he steps into a prize fighting ring with him. This should be a fundamental prerequisite to any prizefight going ahead.

18 days of doping or 14 days of doping instead of 60 isn't a compromise any more than 'ok just a little bit of plaster on the gloves then, alright?' or 'ok we'll just have one glove plastered then' is.

    Arum quotes:

Arum made it clear that both he and Pacquiao are standing pat on a 24-day cutoff period for the random blood tests and the previously agreed upon 50-50 split. “All I’m saying right now, is we are holding on to our position.â€￾

Arum said that should a Mayweather fight not materialize, Pacquiao has several options. The first would be a possible fight against former champion Antonio Margarito, who takes on Roberto Garcia. Such will be Margarito’s first fight after a one-year layoff due to a suspension slapped on him by the California State Athletic Commission over the use of padding in his hand-wraps before his fight against Miguel Cotto.

Arum also raised the possibility of a rematch with Cotto, from whom Pacquiao won the World Boxing Organization welterweight title with a 12th-round technical knockout last November.

“If Cotto beats Yuri Foreman, Manny may want to fight Cotto at 150 pounds for the junior middleweight title in a rematch,â€￾ Arum said. “That fight is saleable, because Cotto has Emmanuel Steward training him.â€￾

if i really believed i were inferior, i'd be really unhappy. i'd compare myself to others and always come up short. i'd feel, well, inferior.
