Keep in mind we lost Edwin Valero, Vernon Forest, and James Kirkland before they could complete the body of their work.
Adamek aside all those guys were pretty badly on the downslide. But you're right he might beat Cloud. That'll be a GREAT fight. One which is worth marinading for a year or so as the networks/promoters let them both take on other opponents for a while. I vastly prefer Cloud's style, (in-fighting, angles, economy of motion & relaxation vs range & athleticism, personal preference) but the result is certainly not a given. Pac-Floyd aside, this's definitely the most exciting future collision in the sport.
Dawson will win comfortably, taking the lineal title and solidifying his claim to the next P4P King. Don't know why he has so many doubters. H'es already beaten the best LHWs in the sport at only 27.
They were the best LHWs in the sport. Glenn is still effective, just beat the shit out of a lower top 10 guy on ESPN after the Dawson fight. Why are you sucking Cloud and trashing Dawson? Cloud hasn't done shit. I don't know a single fighter he's beaten.
What "Body of Work" was Vernon going to be completing at 38, 39 years of age? The same one Mosley was?
Woods and Gonzalez? Do you even watch boxing, dude? Seriously? Are you sure you didn't just see Floyd Mayweather at wrestlemania feel all tingly and end up here in the frenzy? Incidentally there's no known universe where Usaf Mack woulda been a top 10 175er. But you're right I probably am overrating Cloud & underrating Dawson, I just really like his style, Im a fan.
To me, calling Hatton a "great" is definitely a reach. If he had been more competitive in his two biggest fights, then maybe. But he was clearly in over his head against Mayweather and Pacquaio. Throw in a controversial win for his portion of the Welterweight title and you have a good, rather than great fighter.
Conversely, he was pretty much the undisputed champ at his preferred weight for about half a decade, had a 40-odd fight, undefeated run at 140 and, controversial or no, he was a two weight champion. He had the balls to move out of his comfort zone and challenge the very best, losing only to a pair of top twenty ATG fighters. Rightly or wrongly, I'd wager he'll make it to Canastota too. I'm not saying I'd necessarily say Hatton was 'great', but an argument either way can be made. For the record, I'm not convinced myself either. MTF :dunno:
There are allot of guys at Canastota who aren't really ATGs. Hatton certainly got allot more done than some of them. Personally I think Ricky belongs there for the positive influence he had on British boxing alone. Without Hatton, there's a fair chance Calzaghe would never of fought Lacy, Kessler or Hopkins, Haye might well have not fought Mormeck or went to heavyweight chasing the Klits, Froch probably wouldn't have entered the super 6, etc. And so it would have been in British boxing 'til doomsday. Also we wouldn't have known so much about the 2 best fighters of their generation and they wouldn't be on a collision course right now - he chased both of them. War Hatton! :bears:
Wladimir and Byrd both won their first titles in the 00's. Tarver won his first title in the 00's and made the best of the 90's his complete bitch. Chris John is undefeated in the 00's and has a win over JMM. Omar Narvaez may end up with the record for title defenses and while no great right now, he is only a good wining streak away...he's set up similar to how Hopkins and Calz were prior to their runs. It's way to early to tell who will be great from the 00's. Go back to 2000 and try to argue for the guys who are considered great now. If it is a weak decade, it may be because the Oly champs from the 00's didn't go pro in large part.
I agree that Byrd isn't and won't be. It's not clear on some of the others. You're just being a complainer. You can't tell who will end up where until everything is said and done. Unless you just want to be a doomsdayer whiner like a lot of people. For example, do you know how long boxing has been dying?
Look man, when a whole decade goes by and it doesn't produce a single new champion that would crack the top 10, 20 or 30 of previous decades then I'd say that's an observation to get a little alarmist about. I'm not complaining, Im observing. You're denying.
i was pretty disappointed that Lomachenko didn't go pro guy KO'd a frenchie to win the gold medal how the fuck can i not root for that guy?
