I believe that to be one of the greatest urban legends in boxing history. That, and it's complete bullshit. :shit:
Is it a movie or a quasi documentary? What's the name of it? Maybe i'll see if i can find a download somewhere.
It's called 'The Greatest' - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Greatest_(1977_film) There's also this one I found on wikipedia.
I know it was out on DVD a few years back, a friend of mine picked it up. I'd try looking for a torrent, I bet something with 1977 in the search will help.
Liston's name wasn't on the Census register in his hometown recorded somewhere around 1926, perhaps indicating he wasn't yet born. It is highly likely he was born earlier than his official line of 1932, but difficult to believe he could've been within a few years of fifty. I would not be surprised if thirty-five or thirty-six were close to the mark in 1964.
Yes I said 45 with a view to stretching the point, exaggerating. I always felt sorry for Liston, he appears to have had a shitty beginning and a shitty ending.
Yeah it was. He probably didn't see a dime of his "winnings"...thats one thing I give Clay/Ali credit for- his win eradicated the stench of Frankie Carbo and his mob.
I'll bet it was Roger E. Mosley playing Sonny Liston. For those of you not familiar, he was the African-American gentleman from Magnum P.I..
There is actually a 2008 movie about Sonny Liston starring Ving Rhames called Phantom Punch. It's out on torrents too. I've had it for months and never did finish it. Mostly because the copy was corrupted.
