I wrote a piece about this on Fightbeat.com (great site, you should check it out sometime!) about this, and I'm kinda irritated that nobody even talks about this in all the many articles that are out there dealing with the Manny/Floyd negotiations pertaining to the drug testing. Now, without taking either side on this, why is it that NOBODY brings this up to Oscar and Schaefer and ask them why they're being flaming hypocrites? You can read the entire piece HERE but the basics are this: 1. When Zab Judah was going to fight Shane Mosley back about two/three years ago, Judah demanded Shane take a blood test, due to his admission that he took PED's prior to the DLH fight. Shane agreed to do this, but Golden Boy refused, with Schaefer stating the following quote: "We are not going to do other tests than the Nevada commission requires. The fact is Shane is not a cheater and he does not need to be treated like one." So here you have Golden Boy defending Shane against a non G fighter, saying that not only is Shane NOT a cheater and shouldn't be treated like one, but that "we are not going to do other tests than the Nevada commission requires." 2. Now you have Floyd (promoted by G) demanding Manny to take a blood test, and suddenly Golden Boy's faith in NSAC is devastated and they suddenly want something more. Something that they summarily dismissed the idea of just two years ago. And I asked in that piece, that while Shane was allowed to take the tests for the Floyd fight, I wonder if Floyd was NOT repped by G would they allow it? And what does it say about G that they refused back then to allow Shane to do it, but now they're all for it? The only thing that's changed is Floyd. I've only seen one other place even address this (Boxingscene) but everyone else seems to be piss scared to upset G lest they lose their credentials and access or something. Fucking disgraceful. This isn't about who's side you're on as far as the drug testing, it's all about inconsistency and outrageous hypocrisy on Golden Boy's part. And the fact that they're now big enough to where no one dares ask them about it, is shameful.
Thomas Hauser refers to this hypocrisy, and the the whole farce in a brilliantly researched piece that appeared on secondsout, and was posted on here some time ago. if you missed it.... http://www.secondsout.com/columns?ccs=208&cs=131870
He said he was all for Mosley taking the tests that the Nevada commision ask them to take....i.e non-stringent, and not the USADA style tests. So, the hypocricy is that back then he saw no reason in which to operate outside of the state commision's rules, whereas now, with Floyd, they are requesting that they DO operate outside of the relevant commion's state rules.
G will do what ever is in the best interest of their cash cow, Floyd. That's the bottom line. They will rally behind what ever or who ever brings in the money. Sure they were supportive of Mosley when there were talks about a Judah fight, that fight would have made them money and Mosley was their man. When it came down to picking between Mosley and Floyd, it's a no brainer. Mosley is on his way out and Floyd is in or close to his prime.
I agree and that's the point I made in my article. Unless it's fear of reprisal, I don't understand why more people don't bring this up everytime there's a G press conference.
all this will become irrelevant when the nsac changes its rules and implements more stringent testing. then we shall see what arum and the congressman choose to do.
